Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Amid Independence Day pomp and gaiety Dispur police have arrested Akhil Gogoi for staging unauthorized hunger strike in front of the state secretariat on Saturday. The Assam government has announced five new districts. The formal announced was made by chief minister Tarun Gogoi in his speech after he unfurled the national triclour at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara on Saturday morning.In his address after hoisting the national flag in Guwahati, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi made the formal announcement to bring administration closer to the public. The five news districts are Biswanath, Charaideo, Hojai, South Salmara-Mankachar and West Karbi Anglong. With this, the number of districts has gone up to 32 from 27. . 
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi reiterated that he would not give up even an inch of land in the name of the recent Naga peace process. In his address at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara after unfurling the tricolour on Saturday, Gogoi said that Assam was never averse to peace and normalcy in the neighbouring state. But in the same breath, he said Nagaland would not be allowed to buy peace at the cost of Assam.
 Amid simmering controversy over the NRC base year, Chief ministerTarun Gogoi on Saturday said that the government is committed to detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants who came to Assam after 1971.In his address at the Independence Day parade ground in Khanapara, Gogoi said that the immigrants must quit the country. There is no let-up in the condition of senior journalist Hiten Mahanta who has been undergoing treatment at the GNRC Hospitals in Guwahati.He was brought to GNRC on August 5 immediately after he was believed to have sustained head injury.
