Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday questioned Narendra Modi's position on the integration of Naga dominated areas is part of the recent Naga peace framework.   Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi said the prime minister disappointed the people of Assam who were waiting to hear his assurance of safety after the move to integrate the Naga inhabited areas. Gogoi sought the prime minister's position after NSCN-IM Thuingaleng Muivah ruled out a solution without integration of Naga dominated areas of the north east.

The campaigning for the Tiwa Autonomous Council polls slated for Wednesday is set to end on Monday evening. The campaign will close at 5 in the afternoon.  Led by TAC CEM Rama Kanta Deori, the  Tiwa Jatiya Aikya Mancha threatens to impede the prospect of both Congress and BJP. The Gauhati High Court is expected to hear Akhil Gogoi’s public interest litigation on Monday seeking its intervention in the selection of candidates for ACS, APS and allied services.With evidence, the KMSS leader has been alleging gross corruption in the selection of the candidates by the Assam Public Service Commission where eligible candidates have been deprieved.Despite repeated demands, the government probe failed to convince Gogoi. He moved the governor seeking the exit of the chairman Rakesh Paul. But of no avail. Then he moved the high court which will hear the PIL on Monday.The court has already received affidavits from APSC and government.     
The suicide of a security guard of a minister in Dispur creates no less sensation in the capital on Monday. Identified as Akhil Haloi, the PSO of minister Sumitra Patir committed suicide by shooting himself dead with his service revolver in the midnight. Immediately after the incident, he was rushed to the hospital where he was declared brought dead. Akhil, who hailed from Nalbari district was believed to have been suffering from depression for the last couple of days. Dispur police have seized his service revolver and sent the body for post mortem.    
Chandan Nagar police have arrested three people including a woman charging the trio with trafficking a girl from Sivasagar.Acting on a complaint lodged after the victim was rushed to a local hospital at Chandannagar area in West Bengal, police have arrested Nirmala Das and Abdul Hakim who brought the girl promising job to be sexually exploited last week.According to information, she was taken to Kerala from her home district luring job in the southern city. But she was halted in West Bengal to be sexually molested at a room in Chandannagar area in the state.She suddenly fell ill on Saturday to be rushed to the hospital for treatment where the entire incident came to light.
There won’t be any Don Bosco statue in Guwahati to honour the saint educator on his 200th birth anniversary. The Don Bosco Society has cleared its position after the miscreants thrown a statue at the river Bharalu recently in protest against the move to install it in the area.  Don Bosco Society president V.M. Thomas said in his official statement that they had no intention to hurt the sentiments of the people. After a brief halt, racist attack on the north east people revisits outside the region. The incident took place in Bangaluru, where the victim hails from Golaghat district.The gory incident took place on Saturday night where a group of miscreants attacked Nitul Bora at his rented room in Dakilbast area in Chandrapura.According to information, a gang of 4 miscreants came to Nitul and started attacking him with sharp weapon bereft any reason. Nitul’s friend Biren Saikia who stayed with him also sustained serious injury in the attack. Biren and Nitual were engaged in a private job.
