Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Amid a bitter blame-game between Tarun Gogoi and Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma over the Louis Berger scam, the demand for CBI probe into the multi crore scam gathers momentum. Former chief minister Prafullla Kumar Mahanta broke the ice on Thursday demanding CBI probe into the scam. Massive waterlogging wreaks havoc in Guwahati again hours after the heavy downpour that lashed the north eastern city on Thursday wee hours.The worst-hit areas include Anil Nagar, Lachit Nagar, Nabin Naga, Chandmari, RG Baruah Road where normal life have come to a grinding halt. Massive waterlogging on the RG Baruah Road has forced the vehicles to shift to the GS Road resulting in traffic snarl.Angry people forced many ministers and MLAs on Thursday when they visited the food-hit areas in the city.
Senior journalist Samudragupta Kashyap will receive Dr Bhupen Hazarika award for 2015 on Saturday. Former Union home minister Sushilkmar Shinde will give away the award to the veteran north eastern journalist at function in Pune which comprises Rs 51,000 in cash along with a citation. Repeated shoot outs seem to have turned Dimapur into a den of criminals where the safety and security of the common people are at stake. Yet another incident of shoot out sends no less anger and shock in the commercial hub of Nagaland on Wednesday.The incident took place at Hong Kong Market area where an unidentified gunman shot at a youth in the afternoon. A Silchar bound passenger sustained serious injury when the TATA Sumo carrying him to Silchar rammed into a wall in Shillong on Wednesday.The accident took place at the Shillong by-pass at Umdoh Byrthih near Umsning  in Ri Bhoi district at  around10:25  in the morning when the vehicle bearing No AS24C – 5096 was on its way to Silchar from Guwahati.Identified as Amanuddin Choudhary, the 43year old passenger is battling for life at the Shillong Civil Hospital.

All Assam Students Union adviser Dr Samujjal Bhattacharya has demanded shoot at sight order against Bangladeshi immigrants along the Indo-Bangladesh border.Addressing a press conference during his Barpeta visit on Wednesday, Dr Bhattachaya said that this would help the authorities stop influx of immigrants along with trans border crimes."Immediately after detection an immigrant should be kept in detention camp so that they cannot flee," said Dr Bhattacharya adding that many immigrants have vanished as soon as they were detected. He further strongly criticized Dispur for not allowing the people to know the findings of the report of the Bengtol incident which took place a couple of years back.
Polling is over for Tiwa Autonomous Council in Nagaon and Morigaon districts on Wednesday. The fate of 112 candidates have been sealed in the ballot boxes which would be opened on Saturday.
