Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

 Amid simmering controversy over the NRC base year, Chief ministerTarun Gogoi on Saturday said that the government is committed to detect and deport the Bangladeshi immigrants who came to Assam after 1971.In his address at the Independence Day parade ground in Khanapara, Gogoi said that the immigrants must quit the country. There is no let-up in the condition of senior journalist Hiten Mahanta who has been undergoing treatment at the GNRC Hospitals in Guwahati.He was brought to GNRC on August 5 immediately after he was believed to have sustained head injury. The mysterious death of a Assamese youth inside a police station in Arunachal Pradesh creates no less sensation and anger across Dhemaji.Identified as Abhijit Deka, the youth from Dhemaji district was found dead inside the Naharlogun police station on Thursday night four days after police picked up him from his rented room at Basbari near Harmoti.Police call it a suicide case.
