Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Prime minister Narendra Modi claimed to have signed the Naga peace accord to help the insurgent come back to the national mainstream.Addressing a huge crowd at Dubai on Monday night, Modi said peace gains top priority of his government. He hoped that the recent accord with the NSCN-IM would help the restive north eastern region restore peace and normalcy.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday suggested a slew of measures to the Centre to expedite the process of development of the state. Talking to DoNER minister Jitendra Singh in Guwahati, Gogoi asked the Union minister to speed up the multi-level car parking, waterways project.This is in addition to the expansion of the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati. Early release of funds was one of the main demands Gogoi placed before the Singh. Singh assured Gogoi of early measures to remove the hurdles to expedite the implementation of the projects. 
Assam is bracing up for yet another devastating flood wave if the weather condition is any indication. Weathermen on Monday predicted heavy rainfall in the foothills of Himalayas over the next week raising the possibility of the flood wave.According to the India Meteorological Department, the monsoon is set to bring very heavy rainfall in the foothills of Himalayas which could help the Brahmaputra swell its water level. 
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday questioned Narendra Modi's position on the integration of Naga dominated areas is part of the recent Naga peace framework.   Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi said the prime minister disappointed the people of Assam who were waiting to hear his assurance of safety after the move to integrate the Naga inhabited areas. Gogoi sought the prime minister's position after NSCN-IM Thuingaleng Muivah ruled out a solution without integration of Naga dominated areas of the north east.
