Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Uncertainty still persist for the nine Congress MLAs who are prepared to join BJP. According to Assam Times Political Research Bureau, neither the central leadership nor the state leadership have given them the green signal to join the party.  “They have three conditions for joining BJP. Party president Amit Shah advised them to talk to the state leadership when they met him in  New Delhi recently. But they have yet take up their conditions with the state leadership. Even the state leadership have not invited them so far to discuss the conditions,” said a senior party leader in New Delhi.       Their conditions include firstly ticket for assembly polls....
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation is bound to pave the way for bye election in the Jalukbari constituency as the state has seven months to go to the assembly polls.BJP poll strategists want the bye election in Jalukbari to boost the morale of the party in rank and file.Immediately after joining the party, Dr Sarma left it all on the Congress leadership. But a week after it he preferred resignation and fresh mandate. 
Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma will quit as Congress MLA on Tuesday. Dr Sarma who is arriving in Guwahati from Sivasagar in the afternoon is set to meet the Assam Assembly secretary to clear the formalities to resign as Congress MLA from Jalukbari constituency. According to sources, if it is delayed on Tuesday, he will complete the formalities on Wednesday. Dr Sarma was elected as MLA from Jalukbari constituency in 2001 with Congress ticket. He was reelected in 2006 assembly polls. He won the polls for the third consecutive term in 2011.

The Gauhati High Court has asked the government to recall Mukul Saikia as SP in the chief minister’s vigilance and anti corruption within 7 days.Hearing a PIL alleging corruption by Rakesh Paul, a division bench of the court asked him to restart the probe into the corruption charges against the APSC chairman.Notably, during his stint as SP attached to the chief minister’s anti corruption and vigilance cell, Saikia gathered lots of disturbing evidence against Paul who allegedly amassed huge wealth within a short span of time.
In a major blow for APSC, Gauhati High Court on Monday asked the autonomous body to submit an affidavit early on the alleged mistakes in the question papers prepared for the civil service examination in 2013.Hearing a PIL filed by KMSS leader Akhil Gogoi, a division bench of the court asked APSC to submit the affidavit at an earlier date.In his PIL, Gogoi alleged plenty of mistakes in the question papers set for the civil service examination.

The All Tribal Students’ Union, Manipur will mount more pressure on all tribal MLAs to quite early. In a set of resolutions on Monday, ATSUM demands immediate restoration of internet connectivity and SMS facilities.The student organization has charged the government with allowing to prevail a dictatorial regime denying them our rightful entitlements as citizens. They have endorsed the initiatives of the Joint Action Committee in Churachanpur to expresses solidarity for future actions.They further demand safe passage of all people from Manipur outside the north eastern region.
