Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

The Gauhati High Court on Monday will decide on the fate of Gopinath Das who is an absconding rape accused. But policemen probing the sensational case have been carrying out operation in many place in the city and its adjoining areas in search of the Boko AIUDF MLA who allegedly raped his minor domestic help inside his car a couple of weeks back.Immediately after his anticipatory bail plea was rejected by CJM court, he moved the high court for an interim bail where his case would come up for hearing on Monday. Local residents in Boko continue to hit the streets demanding immediate arrest of the MLA.
Tripura chief minister Manik Sarkar is on a visit to Jorhat on Friday. Sarkar arrived in Jorhat on the Intercity Express in the  morning  to be received by hundreds of SFI leaders and activists. Sarkar is visiting Jorhat to attend the SFI session  on Friday.

The Opposition Asom Gana Parishad is contemplating to move Supreme Court challenging the Centre’s Indian citizenship for the non Muslim Bangladeshi and Pakistani immigrants. Talking to Assam Times AGP president Atul Bora confirmed the move saying that they have been preparing to move the court.“We are considering the options and we hope that we would be able to do so,” said Bora. The party has been dead opposed to the idea of the Centre for Indian citizenship to the Bangladeshi and Pakistani non Muslims.
In yet another case of crime against women three miscreants gangraped a local girl in a remote place in Sivasagar district in full view of her brother in law on Thursday night.The shocking incident took place at Hanuman Tea Garden in Nazira when the girl was walking along with her brother in law. Local residents said three motor cycle born youths appeared on the scene and forcibly took away the girl to be gangraped.As the local residents in large number thronged the miscreants fled from the spot. The girl was rushed to the Hiteswar Saikia Sub divisional Hospital.
Guwahati police have yet to trace out Gopinath Das in connection with a rape case pending against the AUDF MLA in Boko. Bowing down to an escalating pressure 3 more MLAs have put in their papers in Manipur on Thursday. Phungzathang Tonsing, Dr Chaltonlien Amo and T Vungzagin resigned after they hardly saw any possibility of withdrawing the three controversial bills that triggered howls of protest in the north eastern state.Contrary to what was widely believed, home minister Gaikhanngam did not resigned.
