Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Surface communication remains heavily disrupted in Assam along with other parts of the country following the 12 hour general strike by the trade unions on Wednesday.Called in protest against the anti people or anti worker policies of the NDA government, the general strike began in the state at 6 in the morning. After a brief halt, massive waterlogging wreaks havoc in Guwahati disrupting surface communication on Tuesday.A huge portion of the National Highway has come under the water logging forcing Nagaon-Guwahti buses, trucks and other vehicles to divert the route through Chandrapur area in the outskirt of the city.Many areas in the city have been flooded following the incessant rains in the afternoon. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi gave hint of a tough action on the dissident Congress MLAs for anti party activities saying that the party won’t tolerate these any longer.Talking to reporters after the end of the meeting with party vice president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday, Gogoi said that the dissident MLAs won’t be spared until and unless they tender apology before the party leadership. Miscreants set ablaze the Churachandpur Police Station in Manipur on Tuesday at around 2 in the afternoon.
