The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.

The big question is when Public Sector companies like OIL and ONGC cannot make profit from these fields, how can Private Sector Parties can make profit. Are they superior to ONGC or OIL in in technology, equipments and manpower ?

All out against Hindutva culture

GUWAHATI: RTI activist Akhil Gogoi has given hint of a massive agitation in Assam to keep at bay the RSS-BJP sponsored Hindutva culture calling it a huge threat to the state’s social fabric. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, Gogoi, the KMSS leader said the All Indian Kisan Sabha would also be the part of his organization’s statewide agitation to thwart the culture in question. GUWAHATI: Brisk preparations are afoot in Guwahati for the BJP rally where party president Amit Shah is sounding panchayat poll bugle on Saturday. Gold seized in Guwahati again

GUWAHATI: Guwahati, the gateway to the north eastern region has become a safe route for gold smuggling these days. Security forces attached to the Northeast Frontier Railway seized twelve pieces of gold worth Rs 70 lakh from a New Delhi bound train on Friday. Acting on a tip off, a team of railway police raided two passengers from the Rajdhani Express just before it departing the city in the morning and seized the gold biscuits brought from Dimapur. Later, the duo were taken to the hospital since they brought the biscuits in the question in their rectum.     

BTC Secretariat catches fire

KOKRAJHAR: Public properties worth several lakh along with many crucial documents reduced to ashes when a devastating the BTC secretariat caught fire in Kokrajhar on Friday. The fire which is believed to have originated from electric short circuit ravaged a portion of the ground floor in the wee hours. Five fire fighters took around four hours to bring the situation under control. The extent of damage has yet to be assessed.

GUWAHATI: The Enforcement Directorate probing the multi crore chit fund scam is producing Sudipto Sen before a special court in Guwahati on Friday to carry out more investigation. Sen, the Saradha chief and his main associate Debojani Mukherjee were brought to the capital city to be kept at the Panbazar police station.
