The move to auction 12 oil fields in Assam runs into a hail of state-wide protests. Announcing a slew of protest, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad threatens to intensify protest if the Centre refuses to restraint by July 8. Talking to Assam Times, AJYCP leaders in Sivasagar said they are holding a 12-hour strike at the oil field in Sivasagar district on Monday. On Tuesday, the influential organization will further block the national Highway No 37 in protest against the controversial move of the Modi Government. On July 8, they would block the rails opposing the move.

The big question is when Public Sector companies like OIL and ONGC cannot make profit from these fields, how can Private Sector Parties can make profit. Are they superior to ONGC or OIL in in technology, equipments and manpower ?

Maibong toll mounts to 2

HAFLONG: Yet another protester succumbed to injury in Maibong police firing on Thursday sending huge shock and anger across the state on Friday. Identified as Prakash Haksama, he died on his way to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital on Friday wee hours. With this, the toll in this incident of police firing in Maibong railway station has gone up to two. The policemen sprang upon a crowd of people who blocked the rails in the morning in protest against the alleged move to annex the hills district in the proposed greater Nagalim. Hours after the firing, MITHUN Dibragede died as he was rushed to the hospital.

Assam joins Republic Day celebrations

GUWAHATI: Defying rebel diktat national tricolour is fluttering in the sky of Assam as the north eastern state joined the nation wide 69th Republic Day on Friday. Governor Jagdish Mukhi is unfurling the tricolour and took salute of the army, police and para military forces at the Khanapara Veterinary Playground in the morning. All cabinet ministers are hoisting the flag at their assigned district headquarters amid an elaborate security arrangement. ULFA-I, NDFB along with other north eastern states have enforced general strike from Thursday mid night opposing the red letter day celebrations and appealed to the people to boycott the Republic Day.

Eerie silence in Dima Hasao

HAFLONG: Normal life remains heavilly disrupted in Dima Hasao from early in the morning on Friday following the 48 hour bandh fall in protest against the police firing in Maibong on Thursday. Roads in the hills district are wearing a deserted look and all shops and markers are remaining closed under the impact of the bandh which began from 5 in the morning. HAFLONG: At least eleven people sustained injury in Haflong when security forces on Thursday sprang upon a huge crowd of people who blocked the rails alleging the move to include Dima Hasao in the proposed greater Nagalim. The incident took place in the morning at Maibong when thr entire district remained paralyzed under the impact of a total bandh opposing the alleged move to include the Dimasa dominated district in the greater Nagalim. GUWAHATI: ULFA(I) has released a video opposing the 69th  nationwide Republic Day celebrations slated for Friday. Apart from a speech explaining the reasons behind the futile celebration of the red letter day, the video displays a group of rebels setting afire the national tricolor.  ULFA(I) along with other major north eastern rebel outfits are enforcing a 24 hour general strike opposing the Republic Day on Friday. Search operation atop Mayodiya

ITANAGAR: Police and SDRF men have intensified the operation in search of the people who have been remaining clueless after the vehicle carrying them to Mayodia in Arunachal Pradesh slipped into a steep gorge on Wednesday. Nearly two dozen police and SDRF personnel have been deployed in the operation which resumed in the morning. ULFA-I owns up attack on army

GUWAHATI: The United Liberation Front of Asom(I) has owned up the responsibilities of the attack on army in Namsai where a jawan was killed on Wednesday. In a statement, the rebel outfit's military head Paresh Barua confirmed that they launched the attack on the army troop with grenade explosion in the morning. Security forces are stepping up a combing operation in the entire area in search of the rebels who exploded the grenade. The incident took place in the morning where the rebels exploded the powerful grenade on the road near Namsai in Arunachal Pradesh as the troops crossed the area in the run up to the Republic Day on Friday.
