Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday allocated additional portfolios temporarily to four ministers in his cabinet a day after he dropped two ministers. Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nazrul Islam will look in the health and family welfare. Pradyut Bordoloi will hold additional portfolio of education apart from power and industry. Agricultural Minister Nilamoni Sen Deka got two additional portfolios - irrigation and soil conservation. Minister of State for Excise, Sports and Youth Welfare Ajit Singh will hold cooperation as an additional portfolio.
A tea stall owner was killed and three others sustained injury when suspected ULFA militants exploded a powerful blast in Goalpara district on Wednesday. The explosion took place at around 8 in the morning at a stone's throw distance from the Krishnai police station where the person identified as Mujibur Rehman was killed on the spot. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is set to reshuffle his cabinet in a day or two. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi is ready to seek an appointment with Governor JB Patnaik for his consent to reshuffle his cabinet. At least ten portfolios have been remaining idle after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma resigned and Siddique Ahmed and Ardhendu Dey were axed. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has suggested Governor JB Patnaik to accept the health and education minister’s resignation leter he submitted on Monday. Dr Sarma on Monday put in his papers saying that he was not physically and mentally prepared to work under Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. After the receipt of the letter, Gogoi sent the letter to the party high command seeking final seal of approval.
Normalcy is back to Rangapara town a day after the Sonitpur administration imposed curfew following a clash between police and protestor. Talking to Assam Times, district administration officials said that curfew has been lifted from 10 in the morning on Tuesday. The district administration was maintaining a strict vigil to prevent any further incidents. Indefinite curfew was clamped after police lathicharged protesters, who were holding a road blockade demanding improvement in communication facilities to the place. The agitators, comprising 25 organisations were protesting alleging pathetic condition of the Misamari-Balipara road.
