Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

Mr. Tarun Gogoi is going mad because the assembly election of Assam is approaching. He is such a person who knows only vote bank politics. He is a useless Chief Minister of Assam who has no interest to protect the indigenous communities of Assam rather he is ready to protect the illegal Bangladeshis who entered illegally to our land. The vote bank politics of Congress in Assam will lead our state to be part of Bangladesh. Tarun Gogoi will sell Assam to Bangladesh and he along with his family will settlen down in London.

Dr Sarma on Monday put in his papers saying that he was not physically and mentally prepared to work under Tarun Gogoi as chief minister. After the receipt of the letter, Gogoi sent the letter to the party high command seeking final seal of approval.
Normalcy is back to Rangapara town a day after the Sonitpur administration imposed curfew following a clash between police and protestor. Talking to Assam Times, district administration officials said that curfew has been lifted from 10 in the morning on Tuesday. The district administration was maintaining a strict vigil to prevent any further incidents. Indefinite curfew was clamped after police lathicharged protesters, who were holding a road blockade demanding improvement in communication facilities to the place. The agitators, comprising 25 organisations were protesting alleging pathetic condition of the Misamari-Balipara road.
Japanese Encephalitis continues to wreak havoc in the state where the death toll has gone up to 52. Barpeta district remains worst affected after the death toll has gone up to eight apart from the rise in then number of confirmed positive cases which stands at 54. Barpeta is followed by the rural Kamrup district with 34 cases. Four patients died. Darrang, Sivasagar and Nalbari have all registered six deaths. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi is preparing to accept Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation a day after the education and health minister quitted the cabinet. Reliable sources told Assam Times that the chief minister has sent the copy of Dr Sarma’s resignation letter to AICC conveying his decision to accept it. Dr Sarma put in his papers on Monday saying that he was not prepared to work under Tarun Gogoi as chief minister.
The dissident ministers and MLAs are running the risk of stern action from the party high command. State Congress committee on Monday has urged the AICC to take stern action against outgoing education and health minister alleging anti party activities. APCC along with 13 ministers have jointly urged the party leadership to take action against the dissident MLAs and ministers who accompanied Dr Sarma in his journey to the Raj Bhawan. The Gogoi camp finalized their strategies after they met at the residence of social welfare minister Akon Bora.
AICC on Monday downplayed Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma’s resignation saying that it would have hardly any impact on the ruling party. Hours after Dr Sarma put in his papers as health and education minister, AICC spokesman Manish Tewari said that the developments would do any harm for the party.
