Chief minister Tarun Gogoi on Monday made it plain and simple that his government wants 2014 voter list as one of the supportive documents to update the national registrar of citizens.
Responding to the legislators who asked him to clear his position, Gogoi said that the list would be required if the documents earlier announced by the Supreme Court are not available for an indigenous citizen.
He said that his government has already moved the Supreme Court for consideration which has not so far rejected the affidavit.

A Naga miscreant was killed in a heavy exchange of fire in Doldoli Reserve Forest in Karbi Anglong district along the Assam-Nagaland border during an anti-encroachment drive on Monday. According to information, the incident took place when gunmen from across the border fired upon security personnel and workers engaged in the eviction operation forcing the police to retaliate where the miscreant was killed. Outgoing health and education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma makes it plain and simple that he would continue to oppose Tarun Gogoi as chief minister as long as he stays. Immediately after sending his resignation letter on Monday, Dr Sarma who has been leading the dissident group said that he has 50 legislators behind him and if need be, he would name them. After Congress, now its time for AGP to take on the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. The Opposition party on Saturday has accused Modi of cheating Assam and its people. In a memorandum set to Governor JB Patnaik, AGP alleged that the new government has done precious little to deport illegal Bangladeshi migrants. “Modi had promised the people of Assam that all Bangladeshi immigrants would have to pack their bags and leave the state and country after May 16. But nothing has been done in that direction,” said the party.
