Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

 As the assembly polls are round the corner the Congress government starts wooing the voters at the cost of the public exchequer.Chief minister Tarun Gogoi distributed loans to at least 3600 self help groups at a function organized by the panchayat and rural development department in Guwahati on Thursday.In his address before distributing in cheques, Gogoi and urged hoped that the loans would help the self help groups in a big way.According to sources, the loans need not be returned and the self groups would be utilized the fund at their own discretion.    
Caught in a grim controversy chief minister Tarun Gogoi has asked chief secretary VK Pipppersenia to monitor the NRC preparation process across the state.The chief minister’s office issued the order after people in large number hit the streets alleging gross anomalies and helplessness to fill up the NRC forms.A section of officials deployed in the process is alleged to have been demanding money to help them complete the task.
Policemen tracing the triple murder in Hatigaon claimed to have got the vital clue after the arrest of a person on Thursday.Hatigaon police on Thursday wee hours arrested Bhaskar Dutta from Pathsala who was wanted in the sensational murder case where businessman Pranab Mahanta went missing after allegedly killing his wife along with two minor daughters.Bhaskar was believed to have been in close touch with the Mahantas till the day when the sensational murder case took place at Bonphool Nagar in the city’s Hatigaon area. A group of senior police officials is interrogating Bhaskar.     
The simmering orgy of violence that marred the 24 hour central Assam bandh costs the job of a senior police officer in Kamrup district on Thursday.The government has suspended the Sonapur police station officer in charge for failing to firmly deal with the situation where the bandh supporters damaged several vehicles on the road during the last 24 hours.According to information, Sonapur police station officer in charge Sanjeev Das has received his suspension order from the authorities for allowing the orgy of untoward incidents to go unchecked.Notably, a section of the bandh supporters unleashed a reign of terror by damaging dozens of vehicles on the road.      ...
A huge herd of wild elephants unleashed no less reign of terror in Majuli destroying crops and damaging property on Wednesday night.At least 200 elephants came down to the river island in the evening and started destroying crops and vegetables in Nayabazar along with 20 other adjacent villages while some others damaged houses and properties forcing the villagers to flee.Forest officials found it quite difficult to control the herd of wild elephants. They resorted to blank firing and burst of fire crackers. But of no avail.Only in the wee hours, the entire herd of elephants vanished. Marred by an orgy of violence the 24 hour central Assam bandh came to an end on Thursday morning.At least 13 local organizations called for the bandh demanding elections in Tiwa autonomous body along with other local bodies in the cental parts of the state.The bandh began at 6 in the morning on Wednesday which evoked total response till Thursday morning. Vehicles remained off from the roads, shops and markets, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh which was marked by an orgy of untoward incidents.Bandh supporters in some places set on fire at least ten vehicles while they were trying to enforce the bandh.   
Amid simmering differences between Raj Bhawan and Rajiv Bhawan, Governor PB Acharya on Wednesday asked Anjan Dutta to meet him on Friday.APCC sources told Assam Times that the APCC president received the letter from the governor on Wednesday inviting him for a discussion at the Raj Bhawan at 11 in the morning on Wednesday.Governor’s invitation assumes significance a week after the Congress leaders and activists staged dharna in front of the Raj Bhawan asking him to refrain from working as BJP agent.
