Central Assam bandh ends

Marred by an orgy of violence the 24 hour central Assam bandh came to an end on Thursday morning.

At least 13 local organizations called for the bandh demanding elections in Tiwa autonomous body along with other local bodies in the cental parts of the state.

The bandh began at 6 in the morning on Wednesday which evoked total response till Thursday morning. Vehicles remained off from the roads, shops and markets, banks and offices remained closed under the impact of the bandh which was marked by an orgy of untoward incidents.

Bandh supporters in some places set on fire at least ten vehicles while they were trying to enforce the bandh.
