Assamese travel fiction released

It was a homely meeting organized at Guwahati Press Club that witnessed the release of a travel fiction titled Ontarior Seuj Dalisat (Over Green Carpet of Ontario) and penned by Dr Jagadindra Raychoudhury in presence of several senior journalists. Inaugurating the book, Swapnaneel Barua, a scholar and also a senior bureaucrat of Assam, pointed out that the writer not only documented various events related to his visit to Canada, but also painted a humanist reminiscence with his created characters.

The function, held on 1 July 2015, was also addressed by senior journalists like Hiten Mahanta, Rupam Barua, PJ Barua, Mukul Kalita, Ranen Kumar Goswami, Nava Thakuria and Pramod Kalita. Moderated by journalist Sabita Lahkar, the meeting was graced by acclaimed story writer Jyotish Sikder, professors Anup Talukder & Nirmali Medhi, singers Anindita Choudhury & Kishor Giri and Bitopan & Sneha. A prolific writer, Dr Raychoudhury is an associate professor of B Barua College, Guwahati and contributor to various Assam based newspapers and magazines. A smiling personality Dr Raychoudhury is also a regular participant in various radio programs and television talk shows. Published by Basundhara publication of Hatigaon in Guwahati, the book has 192 pages with a nice cover designed by prominent artist Padma Singha. It is priced at Rs 250/- per copy.

we know or have read many travel related books but "Ontario'r heuj dolisat" is not only a travel experience but is a travel fiction..A great experience as you keep on reading this book and gain new knowledge & issues..we expect many new books from him and wish him success..

A moderate tremor damaged no less properties in many parts of lower Assam on Sunday.Measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale originate in Basugaon, the tremor was felt in Kokrahar, Chirang, Bongaigaon and Golapara districts at 6.37 in the morning striking panic among lakhs of people.

 A court in Guwahati on Friday asked the Assam Cricket Association not to hold its annual session and general election for the time being.Acting on a petition filed by a state cricket body member Tapan Hazarika, a bench of Justice PD Gogoi restrained ACA from holding the session and election scheduled for Friday in Silchar.Hazarika alleged before the court that the state’s cricket board has yet to clear its accounts and audits for the last couple of years.This is not for the first time ACA had to suspend annual session and election. The cricket body was prevented from holding fresh election on earlier two occasions. 
Congress and BJP have started heat and dust for the assembly polls early next year.BJP state unit president Siddharth Bhattacharya predicted less than 10 seat for Congress in the assembly polls. Talking to reporters in the sidelines of a Black day function in Guwahati on Friday, he said that the party has leaders but no workers.MP Bijoya Chakrabarty criticized Tarun Gogoi for his recent move on NRC saying that the Chief Minister has lost mental balance because of simmering dissidence.“He is interested to safeguard the interest of the Bangladeshi immigrants,” said Chakrabarty.
Kamakhya temple premises atop the Neelacjhal hill is set to be fallen silent on Friday as the four day long Ambubachi fair has come to an end.Lakhs of pilgrims from the country and abroad are waiting on long queues from early in the morning to visit the ancient temple which resumed puja offerings on Friday.Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visited the temple at 7-30 in the morning and offered pujas along with Kamrup (Metro) DC amnd commissioner MGKV Bhanu.Talking to reporters, Gogoi said that he was seeking divine help to restore peace and development in the state.
 More than 60 women courted arrest on Friday when they staged dharna in Guwahati demanding removal of APSC chairman alleging rampant corruption in the civil service examinations.Hundreds of women representing the women KMSS started staging dharna in front of the APSC office premises at 11 in the morning some of whom were thrashed and were taken to the Basistha police station.    
Union home minister Rajnath Singh will be on a stock taking visit to Dhubri on June 29. During his two days visit, Singh is scheduled to take stock of the Indo-Bangladesh border fencing work. His visit assumes significance a month after the one member panel set up by the Supreme Court visited the border fencing works.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi criticized the Narendra Modi government on Thursday for failing to enlist the state in the list of proposed six new IIMs.In a statement, Gogoi accused the Centre of paying only lip services to the state. He said, Modi made tall promises for the northeast before the polls.
