Centre’s NO to ST status

The centre has rejected the demands for ST status to six ethnic tribes forcing many organizations to hit the streets.

Ministry for tribal affairs sources told Assam Times in New Delhi that after a thorough study the authorities have  rejected the demands ST status for tea garden workers, Ahoms, Koch Rajbanshi, Chutias and Muttocks citing lack of laid down norms.

The decision is set to run into a hail of protest in Delhi and Dispur. The demand was long standing and both Delhi and Dispur have been assuring these ethnic tribes of their due status for the last ten years.

Both Congress and BJP promised S status for the 6 ethnic tribes for overall uplift.

This exposes the governments scandalous motives and false poll promises. This also goes against the spirits of the Pro Talks faction of ULFA , whom the government had promised the STfication of the state .Successive governments have done this and the present has proved that they are no better than the previous.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi rules out alliance with national party

Congress alliance will win atleast one seat more than BJP, claims Gaurav

Senior Congress leader and MP Gaurav Gogoi today claimed that the Grand Old party-led alliance will win atleast one seat more than the ruling NDA in the upcoming Assam assembly elections. Congress loses two leaders in Assam

In a major setback for the Congress, which has been struggling hard to regain strength since 2014, has today lost two of its prominent faces in Assam. Sitting MLA of Badarpur, Jamaluddin Ahmed and former MLA of Dergaon Aroti Kachari Hazarika passed away. The Dergaon politican was 59. The two leaders' deaths were mourned by many including APCC president Ripun Bora, former minister Bismita Gogoi, among others.

Dr. Ramesh Pathak passes away

Noted Assamese linguist and former Cotton College professor Dr. Ramesh Pathak is no more. The professor has passed away today after a brief illness. His death is mourned by many. Born in Tihu, Nalbari Dr. Pathak has made tremendous contribution in the field of the Assamese linguistic by penning a number of books.
