Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. APCC poll panel will meet on Monday to prepare panels of candidates for each of the Lok Sabha constituencies.Internal observers are expected to submit their findings on Monday on the winnable candidates after touring the  constituencies.The poll panel is scheduled to meet at 3 in the afternoon at the Hotel Greenwood in Khanapara.The panels would be sent to the AICC poll committee in New Delhi for screening.   
Rajya Sabha MP from BPF Biswajeet Daimary is all set to file his nomination on Monday seeking reelection to the Upper House with the help of Congress.Daimary is scheduled to file his nomination on Monday before the returning officer in Dispur.BPF sources told Assam Times that Daimay would be the second choice candidate in the Rajya Sabha polls slated for February 7.His term will expire on April 13 along with Bhubneswar Kalita from Congress and Birendra Prasad Baishya from AGP.
The Opposition is likely to give the Congress an easy walk over in the Rajya Sabha polls for three seats.The opposition comprising manly BJP, AGP and AIUDF have not been able to project a consensus candidate for the polls slated for February 7.BJP has already given walk over citing lack of strength. AGP and AIUDF are in talks. But there is hardly any outcome. As a result, AGP will lose its lone seat in the upper House.

Assam Congress president Bhubneswar Kalita is likely to seek re-election to the Rajya Sabha.According to top sources, Kalita, whose term will expire on April 13 is all set to file his nomination before the returning officers in Dispur on Monday two days after he got green signal from the party high command.He is expected to be the party’s first choice candidate for the polls slated for February 7.In yet another significant development, the party is believed to have finalised nomination of Kirip Chaliha as the third choice. A circle of legislators have been lobbying for the former Lok Sabha MP for the last couple of months.

Bharatiya Janata Party will not participate in the upcoming Rajya Sabbha polls slated for February 7.Disclosing this, BJP senior leaders told reporters on Monday that they are averse to participate in the vote with only 5 seats in the assembly.They admitted that they have ideological differences with AIUDF and they have no pact with AGP to contest the polls for three seats.

Tension seems to have been escalating in Kokrajhar on Sunday following the recovery of a girl’s body a day after she went missing.Local residents spotted the body at a paddy field at Binachora on Sunday morning and reported it to the police. The girl was believed to have been repeatedly raped and murdered on Saturday. Investigation is in progress.
The Assam government is gearing up for encephalitis vaccination across the state from February.Disclosing this in his Republic Day speech in Amingaon on Sunday, health minister Dr Himanta Biswa said the vaccination process is all set to begin from February 10. He hoped that the vaccination would be able to eliminate the fear of the dreaded disease that has already took heavy toll in the state during the last couple of days.  
Governor JB Patnaik on Sunday said that process days are not far for the Guwahatians to get metro rail.In his Republic Day speech after unfurling the tricolor at the Veterinary Playground in Khanapara, Patnaik said that his government has invited tenders to begin the project.A few months back, the government announced three metro rail projects from Khanapara to Jalukbari, Paltanbazar to Khanapara and Panbazar to Narengi.
