Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. A full grown tortoise pulled huge crowd after it was rescued in Guwahati on Monday.Local residents in Hengrabari rescued the animal weighing around 40 kg from a pit in the morning. They informed it to the forest department through police.Later the forest officials took it to the Assam State Zoo. The local residents are looking for another tortoise which is believed to have been hiding in the pit.
