Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Dispur police arrested Akhil Gogoi in a fresh case on Saturday before the court of chief judicial magistrate in Kamrup had sent the KMSS president to the jail.Gogoi was produced before the CJM court in the morning where he was remanded to judicial custody for yet another period of 14 days.Gogoi has been languishing in jail from March 5 after five days in police custody in connection with the self immolation of a KMSS activist. Poachers are believed to have been targeting a rhino in Jorhat district after it strayed out of Kaziranga on Friday.The animal struck attention of the local villagers at an open paddy field at Jhanjimuk in Teok area on Friday afternoon.But a section of the local residents told Assam Times that they came to see three poachers following the animal. Three persons of a family had a narrow escape when a ravaging fire engulfed their house in Guwahati on Friday.The incident took place at Satribari area near Paltonbazar where the fire---believed to have been originated from an incense stick spread rapidly in the midnight.SDRF team arrived in the spot and rescued the family members demolishing the walls and windows.
