Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. The Morigaon district administration has ordered a magisterial probe into the death of a minor boy in police firing at Kordoibeel area on Tuesday.Deputy commissioner issued the order when local residents in large number thronged the Morigaon police station campus in protest against the firing where Biswajeet Bordoloi was killed.The incident took place when police resorted to firing to deal with a group clash at a water body in Tetelia.

Thousands of people hit the streets in Tezpur on Tuesday alleging failure to arrest the Chauldhuwa culprits who mowed down 15 villagers in January end.With banners and festoons over one thousands of people representing 12 organizations took out a protest procession in the town.They further submitted a memorandum before the district administration to expedite the process to bring the Chauldhuwa culprits to book apart from clearing the compensation to the victims’ family members.      
AGP on Tuesday announced three more candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The regional party has fielded Madhab Rajbanshi from Mongoldoi immediately after the former Congress leader joined the party.Further, the party has fielded Kabindra Nath Chaudhury in Silchar and Arjun Chaudhury in Karimganj.
In yet another setback for Congress, former MP Madhab Rajbanshi joined the Asom Gana Parishad on Tuesday.Rajbanshi, the two time MP from Mongoldoi joined the regional party at a brief function at the party headquarters in presence of president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.Notably, Rajbanshi who is a strong Koch Rajbanshi leader was put out of the race for Congress ticket to contest from Mongoldoi constituency.  
A school boy was killed when police fired upon a group of people in Morigaon for illegal fishing at a water body on Tuesday.The incident of merciless police firing took place at Kordoibeel near Jagiroad in the morning when policemen sprang upon the people who were fishing defying all instruction.Identified as Biswajeet Borodoloi, the minor boy died on the spot.  Then hundreds of angry people staged dharna in front of the police station in protest against the incident and demanded action against the guilty police men.
Its yet another blow for AIUDF. Dr Pervez Ali Ahmed has joined TMC to contest from Barpeta. That too a day after the AUIDF announced his name as a candidate from Silchar.According to information, Ahmed the son of former President Fakaruddin Ali Ahmed is set to be fielded in Barpeta constituency to face Phani Bhushan Chaudhry from AGP, Chandra Mohan Chudhury from BJP, sitting MP Ismile Hussain and Chirajuddin Ajmal from AIUDF.     The development takes place after another leader and strong contender for Silchar BK Nath resigned from the party.The top contender for Silchar seat resigned from the party immediately after Dr Pervez Ahmed Ali was fielded from Silchar in the...
Yet another leader has deserted AIUDF. He is none other than Bijay Krishna Nath.The top contender for Silchar seat resigned from the party immediately after Dr Pervez Ahmed Ali was fielded from Silchar in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Nath, the proprietor of a popular Bangla daily said that till the other day, the party assured him of the ticket to contest him from Silchar.
The Asom Gana Parishad is seriously considering the name of Madhav Rajbanshi for Mongoldoi seat in the upcoming Lok Sabha seat.But Rajbanshi, the two time Congress MP has already resigned from the ruling party to pave way for the regional party to field him to pull the Koch Rajbnashi votes.
Congress is expected to announce to Mongoldoi candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabbha polls.The ruling party’s election committee is believed to have finalized the name to be announced later on Tuesday.The crucial seat has three top contenders and that’s why, the party’s poll panel found it difficult to finalise it.Apart from former MP Kirip Chaliha, Pranjeet Chaudhury, Pradyut Bhuytan are also in the race for the crucial seat.
