Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Police have arrested a senior Congress leader from Arunachal Pradesh after the income tax officials seized a huge amount of money from his possession in Guwahati on Friday.Identified as Lombu Tayong, the former Arunachal Pradesh minister was captured from Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in the morning. A huge amount of money to the tune of Rs 15 lakhs is believed to have been seized from his possession kept in two bags. Security forces claimed to have killed a hardcore NDFB-S militant in Sonitpur district on Friday.According to information, the militant was killed at an encounter in Ramnathpur area in the wee hours.Two other dreaded militants of the Bodo outfit have been captured in the encounter.  
AGP is holding its crucial general council meeting on Friday to chalk out the strategy for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Resentment among a section of senior party leaders is expected to dominate the meeting at Ambari chaired by president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.Notably, a circle of senior party leaders have joined BJP in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.Sitting MP Joseph Toppo has resigned from the party saying that he was shocked to have learnt that he won’t get ticket this time.   
Gauhati High court is expected to hear the anticipatory bail application of Kamal Medhi who has been implicated in the sensational Pranab Boro self immolation case.Medhi, who is on the run to get rid of arrest, had to move the High Court after the Chief Judicial Magistrate rejected the plea for anticipatory bail since police failed to arrest him in the case.

BJP has announced the second list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The main opposition party has fielded Rameswar Teli in Dibrugarh while Chandra Mohan Patowary has been fielded in Barpeta.Ram Prasad Sarma will contest from Tezpur while his counterpart in Dhubri is Dr Debmoy Sanyal.Krishna Das will contest from Kaimganj while Kabindra Purkayastha has been fielded in Silchar.The party has earlier announced candidates for Guwahati, Mangoldoi, Jorhat, Lakhimpur.  
Barring Mongoldoi, Congress has announced all candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.AICC spokesman Modhusudan Mishtry announced two more names at a press conference in New Delhi on Thursday afternoon.The ruling party has fielded Jonjunali Baruah in Nagaon while Wazed Ali Chaudhury will contest from Dhubri.The AICC election committee is yet to clear the candidate for Mongoldoi seat.The party earlier has announced the names of ten candidates.        
RAJU BARUAH FROM TEZPURAll of a sudden trouble seems to have brewed in Tezpur AIUDF.The Sonitpur AIUDF makes it plain and simple that they are all prepared to resign in rank and file if the party leadership fields Sheikh Saddique in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.The preparedness has been intimated to the party president Badaruddin Ajmal who in Guwahati told reporters on Thursday that the party is considering a winnable candidate from Tezpur.Significantly, the party officials in Tezpur have nothing to go against Mani Kumar Subba who is ready to be the candidate with AIUDF ticket.
In a major setback for AGP, Joseph Toppo pulled out of the regional party.The sitting MP from Tezpur sent his resignation letter to the party leadership in Guwahati alleging that the party is not in a mood to field him for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Notably, the party is considering the name of Brindabon Goswami in lieu of the sitting MP.
