Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

BJP MLA hurt in accident

BJP MLA Kamalakhya Dev Purkayastha sustained wrest injury at a minor accident at an office in Karimganj on Thursday.The incident took place at the Karimganj Deputy Commissioner’s office in the morning.According to eyewitnesses, the MLA slipped as he was coming downstairs after a meeting with the deputy commissioner.Purkayastha was rushed to the nearest hospital where he is undergoing treatment.

Assam trader kidnapped in M’laya

Sensation prevails in West Garo Hills district of Meghalaya after unidentified miscreants kidnapped a trader from Damalgre area on Thursday.Local residents told Assam Times that five motorcycle born armed militants arrived at Abdul Ghani’s rented house who is by profession a tailor and forcibly took him away in the morning.Security forces are fanning in the nearby areas to rescue the Ghani who hails from Sishumari area in Mancachar.

APJ innovation centre

The Assam government will set up an innovation centre to be named after Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. The government announced it after chief minister Tarun Gogoi’s decided to go ahead with this project.

HC to hear PIL against APSC on Aug 14

The Gauhati High Court has asked the Assam Public Service Commission to submit the details of the last civil service examination conducted to select candidates for ACS, APS and allied services. Admitting a PIL by Akhil Gogoi on Thursday, a division bench of the court issued the directive to the commission asking to submit the details of the marks on August 10, obtained by the candidates in the controversial examination. The court will hear the PIL on August 14.It further asked the chief secretary to clear its position on the same day. APSC: HC entertains Akhil’s PIL

After days of will-it-won’t-it, Gauhati High Court entertained Akhil Gogoi’s PIL against Assam Public Service Commission which mires in controversy over the examination to select ACS, APS and allied services.According to the court, it took nearly 15 days to examine the position of the KMSS leader who has alleged rampant corruption in the selection of candidates for ACS, APS and allied services.In his PIL, Gogoi sought court’s intervention against the state public service commission and cancellation of the selected candidates in question.

Lead to triple murder mystery!

The DNA report of a decomposed body is expected to crack the Banphool murder mystery. River police on the Brahmaputra recovered a decomposed body on Wednesday.It was widely believed to be of Pranab Mahanta who went missing after allegedly killing his wife along with two daughters inside his residence. After sending the body for DNA test, police officials probing the triple murder case are waiting for confirmation. If confirmed it would give a fresh lead into the entire sensational case which took place in Banphool Nagar in Hatigaon area last month.
