Health Awareness programme at Barpeta

"About 90 percent of the communicable diseases can be prevented with the use of safe drinking water. And with little efforts water can be purified for a nominal cost’, said Dr. Aminul Islam Khan, Medical and Health Officer, NRHM, Barpeta while participating as the Resource Person, at the Special Health Awareness programme at Pota in Bhawanipur here recently. He again appealed to the village people to take advantage of various health care facilities offered under the National Rural Health Mission and particularly the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU).Shri Rajib Lochan Borthakur, Field Publicity Officer, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India in his speech spoke about the on-going nation wide Health Awareness Campaign by the Directorate of Field Publicity to create health awareness among the rural people. He said that to create demand for health care facilities offered under NRHM, Govt of India from this month launches this Special Health Awareness Campaign throughout the country and it will continue till February next year. Smt. Hanofa Bhuyan, ASHA Facilitator, Bhawanipur, in her speech appealed to the people to adopt the small family norm so that parents could take good care of their children. She also appealed to the people not to arrange marriages for their daughters below the age of 18 years and of that their sons below the age of 21. An On the Spot Quiz competition about health awareness was also held on this occasion and winners were given attractive prizes. A Health Check-up camp was conducted by the Mobile Medical Unit of NRHM,Barpeta and about 150 people were checked up for various health complaints and given free medicine. Earlier a Public Rally was taken out from Dakhin Pota L.P. School, to create awareness about the campaign.

The people of Barpeta have been suffering tremendously for the erratic supply of electricity in the last few days. The supply is disrupted without any prior notice and this continues for a long period of time. The worst sufferers are the students community, industries, educational institutions etc.
Barpeta police seized one loaded truck log at Nagaon, about 10 km away from the town last night at about 2 pm. According to report said, the police visited various places of Barpeta last night and when they reached near Nagaon they found the truck on the road and they seized truck. The driver of the truck Rezzak Ali informed that these logs are coming from Nuntola of Saorbhog (to Bahari Saw mill) and the owner of this is Banjit Das of Barpeta. The cost of seized log is about Rs.1 lakh.
