Health Awareness programme at Barpeta

"About 90 percent of the communicable diseases can be prevented with the use of safe drinking water. And with little efforts water can be purified for a nominal cost’, said Dr. Aminul Islam Khan, Medical and Health Officer, NRHM, Barpeta while participating as the Resource Person, at the Special Health Awareness programme at Pota in Bhawanipur here recently. He again appealed to the village people to take advantage of various health care facilities offered under the National Rural Health Mission and particularly the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU).Shri Rajib Lochan Borthakur, Field Publicity Officer, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India in his speech spoke about the on-going nation wide Health Awareness Campaign by the Directorate of Field Publicity to create health awareness among the rural people. He said that to create demand for health care facilities offered under NRHM, Govt of India from this month launches this Special Health Awareness Campaign throughout the country and it will continue till February next year. Smt. Hanofa Bhuyan, ASHA Facilitator, Bhawanipur, in her speech appealed to the people to adopt the small family norm so that parents could take good care of their children. She also appealed to the people not to arrange marriages for their daughters below the age of 18 years and of that their sons below the age of 21. An On the Spot Quiz competition about health awareness was also held on this occasion and winners were given attractive prizes. A Health Check-up camp was conducted by the Mobile Medical Unit of NRHM,Barpeta and about 150 people were checked up for various health complaints and given free medicine. Earlier a Public Rally was taken out from Dakhin Pota L.P. School, to create awareness about the campaign.

Barpeta district CPI(ML) today observed jail-bhoro programme protesting against the skyrocketing price hike and the continuous corruption in implementing the various NREGA schemes of the entire district. The district unit took out a procession with slogan against the governments towards the deputy commissioner's office and in front of Deputy commissioner's office they staged demonstration. The urged the government for controlling the skyrocketing price hike which has made the lives of the general people measurable. The sudden price hike of the essential commodities has made the life of the general people miserable. The state government has completely failed to control the price hike. Barpeta district AGP has taken out a protest march on September 14 and later on staged demonstration at the DC office premises. The organisation also submitted a memorandum to the DC Barpeta to take appropriate measures on the sudden price hike of the essential commodities.

Barpeta district Anganbadi workers/ helpers Association staged a 4-hour demonstration at DC office premises on September 1 protesting to fulfill their various demands. In a memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi, it was stated that they have been urging the govt to fulfill their demands, but all are futile. In their demands payment of the enhanced rate on central govt salary to the workers; 80% reservation in the vacant post of the chief service women, upgradation of the helpers in the vacant post of Anganwadi workers, stop the work of ICDS to the NGOs.
