Health Awareness programme at Barpeta
"About 90 percent of the communicable diseases can be prevented with the use of safe drinking water. And with little efforts water can be purified for a nominal cost’, said Dr. Aminul Islam Khan, Medical and Health Officer, NRHM, Barpeta while participating as the Resource Person, at the Special Health Awareness programme at Pota in Bhawanipur here recently. He again appealed to the village people to take advantage of various health care facilities offered under the National Rural Health Mission and particularly the Mobile Medical Unit (MMU).Shri Rajib Lochan Borthakur, Field Publicity Officer, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Govt. of India in his speech spoke about the on-going nation wide Health Awareness Campaign by the Directorate of Field Publicity to create health awareness among the rural people. He said that to create demand for health care facilities offered under NRHM, Govt of India from this month launches this Special Health Awareness Campaign throughout the country and it will continue till February next year. Smt. Hanofa Bhuyan, ASHA Facilitator, Bhawanipur, in her speech appealed to the people to adopt the small family norm so that parents could take good care of their children. She also appealed to the people not to arrange marriages for their daughters below the age of 18 years and of that their sons below the age of 21. An On the Spot Quiz competition about health awareness was also held on this occasion and winners were given attractive prizes. A Health Check-up camp was conducted by the Mobile Medical Unit of NRHM,Barpeta and about 150 people were checked up for various health complaints and given free medicine. Earlier a Public Rally was taken out from Dakhin Pota L.P. School, to create awareness about the campaign.

The Mobile Health Unit under NRHM was opened here at Barpeta today to provide the health service to the deprived people of the district. DC Barpeta, Phanidhar Kalita, flagged off the service at the premises of Joint Director of Health Services. Two dacoits were killed in an encounter at Jalakura bridge at Keotkuchi, about 4 km from Barpeta yesterday night. According report, a group police personnel headed by the ASP, DSP and TSI of Barpeta got information about the dacoits and they are awaiting for them at that place. As soon as they arrived the police try to catch them, but the encounter took place between the police and the dacoits. As a result two dacoits were killed and other fled away. The DSP of Barpeta Sushanta Biswa Sarma with the police personnel of Barpeta and Kalgachiya i/c recovered fake notes worth Rs.11500 of 500 denominations from a one Alam Ali of Madrasapara of Kokila outpost in Barpeta district yesterday. The money was recovered at Barvitha near Kalgachiya. According to report, the business of fake currency was on going during last few days in the entire district.
