Akhil Gogoi arrested

Peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi was today arrested at Guwahati by the city police. He was arrested from the Guwahati Press club premise where he organised a press conference. The police cited that he broke the restrictions under the Representation of the people' Act. Hower he was released from the police custody. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered him to release. On the otherhand Akhil gogoi along with other activists staged demonstration in front of deputy commissioner office (Guwahati Metro) demanding clarification from the election Commission of India, weather he was arrested under the aforesaid act. He alleged that it is a conspiracy of the ruling congress.

SFI protests against the UGC

The Assam wing of the Students’ Federation of India(SFI) staged symbolic protestat Dighalipukuripar, Guwahati  on June 21  against the UGC’s recent decision to hold NET once in a year. The students’ organization rued that if the UGC implements its recent decision regarding the NET then a large number of students would loss chance to appear in the exam. Presently, the UGC holds NET twice in a year. Moreover, the UGC has decided to decrease pass percentage of the NET from present 15% to 6%. Bodies condemn Jagun army atrocity

Resentment over free textbook

The sudden decision of Assam government to distribute free text books among government aided school students across the state draws resentment from various sections including the All Assam Publishers and Book Sellers Association. Terming the move as disastrous for the book publishers of the state, GiriPad Devchodhury, proprietor of Bani Prakash urged the government to change its order. Dharani Barman passes away

Dharani Barman, one of the trendsetters of modern drama in the state, breathed his last on Saturday at Chamata, Nalbari district. He was 93. 2 childrens rescued at Tangla railway station

At a time when there have been reports of human trafficking specially women and children from the state to various North Indian states.Two childrens were found abandoned at Tangla railway station on Friday evening.
