Akhil Gogoi arrested

Peasant leader and RTI activist Akhil Gogoi was today arrested at Guwahati by the city police. He was arrested from the Guwahati Press club premise where he organised a press conference. The police cited that he broke the restrictions under the Representation of the people' Act. Hower he was released from the police custody. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi ordered him to release. On the otherhand Akhil gogoi along with other activists staged demonstration in front of deputy commissioner office (Guwahati Metro) demanding clarification from the election Commission of India, weather he was arrested under the aforesaid act. He alleged that it is a conspiracy of the ruling congress.

The Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has expressed serious concern at the sudden closure notice of Prime News by its management leaving more than 150 employees including journalists jobless. The employees of the Guwahati based private satellite news channel inform that the concerned officials of the management have declared about its closure from today.
