Dharani Barman passes away
Dharani Barman, one of the trendsetters of modern drama in the state, breathed his last on Saturday at Chamata, Nalbari district. He was 93. The demise of the thespian bereaves cultural fraternity of the state. He was unwell for last few days.
Barman, a cultural activist, made tremendous contributions in the field of drama by penning a large number of plays and translating Shakespeare’s immortal creations like Othello, King Lear into Assamese among others.
Chief minister Sarbanada Sonowal condoled on his death. Sonowal terms the octogenarian thespian's death as irreparable loss to the cultural arena of the state.
