1st Inter Udalguri District School Athletics Meet held

In  a bid to tap the budding potential of school students in athletics the 1st Inter-Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at Tangla Stadium ground in Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of Udalguri district. The sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,Rally among others  were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud Das; Bhergaon SDO(C),Dithakananda Hazarika; District Sports Officer,Bhupen Rabha; Working President of Tangla Sports Association ,Khargeswar Boro; Internationally acclaimed Kabaddi referree,Nomal Rabha,journalist,Shajid Khan among others.From this meet, athletes will be selected for the state level athletics meet informed event secretary,Mukunda Sarma Baruah. The dignitaries also distributed the athletes with medals and certificates.

The SSB jawans of 61 battalion nabbed six persons with 340 kg ganja (cannabis) and 251 bottles of liquor from the Arunachal- Assam border jungle area on Sunday. They have also seized a Wagon R car (AS-27, 6492) when they found the 251 bottles of liquor being taken illegally. Ransai Daimari (19) and Topeswar Kisan (35) of Pathakpur, Majbat were nabbed from the forest areas of Dhansiri Tea Estate with 230 kg ganja. The 3rd Prize Money Open Badminton Championship (Mens Doubles) was organised on Feb 5 & Feb 6 by Tangla Badminton Association at the Association's playground behind the BSNL office premises.There were participants from Rangia, Rowta, Guwahati Dhemaji, Alipurduar (West Bengal). Ramesh Chandra Saharia Memorial Lecture 2016 was held today at Tangla on February 8 on the occasion of 31st death anniversary of late Ramesh Chandra Saharia of Tangla.
