1st Inter Udalguri District School Athletics Meet held

In  a bid to tap the budding potential of school students in athletics the 1st Inter-Udalguri District School Atheletics Meet-2018 was organized here at Tangla Stadium ground in Udalguri district on Saturday. The event organized by Tangla Sports Association was witnessed widespread participation of nearly 300 athletes from 25 different schools of Udalguri district. The sports competitions included Running Race,Long Jump,High Jump,Javelin,Discuss,Shotput Throw,Rally among others  were held for both Boys and Girls categories. The opening ceremony was attended by former Panery MLA,Kumud Das; Bhergaon SDO(C),Dithakananda Hazarika; District Sports Officer,Bhupen Rabha; Working President of Tangla Sports Association ,Khargeswar Boro; Internationally acclaimed Kabaddi referree,Nomal Rabha,journalist,Shajid Khan among others.From this meet, athletes will be selected for the state level athletics meet informed event secretary,Mukunda Sarma Baruah. The dignitaries also distributed the athletes with medals and certificates.

In a shocking incident, an advocate of Guwahati High Court has faced acid attack on Saturday evening. The advocate was attacked while she was getting down from a bus in Bharalumukh bus station in Bharaumukh area of Guwahati by unknown miscreants. Passengers of the 15618/Naharlagun - Guwahati InterCity Express  had to face a harrowing time on Sunday after the train was stopped due to a bomb planted at a Railway crossing near Tangla which later turned out to be a hoax. A youth named Bhajan Sarkar spotted a material which had wires coming out he immediately informed the police. A team of police headed by Pranjal Borah, SDPO Bhergaon rushed to the spot. All passengers of the train were disembarked at the station for more than a hour. The material turned out to be an empty case of Vaseline with wires attached.

A fire gutted down at least 4 to 5 huts in Dimakuchi daily market on Tuesday afternoon. The fire broke out  from a lighted cigarete and quickly spread to the other houses in the neighbourhood. Fire fighters from Dimakuchi and Tangla were rushed to the market and they quickly doused the fire.There was no report of any casualty or injury.The exact loss of property and its value was yet to be ascertained, sources added.
