Naga rebels caught in Namtula
Namrup: Upper Assam has become a safe den for a section of rebel elements who often keep mongering trouble in many areas. Apart from ULFA-I rebels, some NSCN(U) activists have been moving in Charaideo district forcing the security forces to step in.
The security forces arrested two Naga rebels during a combing operation in the district on Sunday we hours. Acting on a tip off, police, army jawans of DAO division and para military forces caught the rebels along with an OGW in Namtula in the wee hours.
Identified as Nyeie Konyak, Yangpang Koyank the duo belong to NSCN (U) while Abidur Rahman is OGW who hails from Teok .
The trio were understood to have been extorting money from a section of rich people for the last couple of weeks. Police claimed to have seized one .22 pistol , one magazine , two mobile phones and one wallet from them.

People in the Namrup daily bazar paid their homage to the Pulwama martyrs.
The programme was organsied by daily bazaar shop keepers assoctiation and local people of the area.
The 11 hour Assam bandh called by North East Students Organization ( NESO ) and All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) , supported by many other organizations opposing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 was total in Namrup. The town wore a deserted look as vehicles of all kinds remained off the road. Schools and colleges, shops and markets, banks and offices were seen closed. The bandh supporters burnt tyers at Namrup Sonari Tiniali , BVFCL Main Gate , APL Main Gate and Sarmah Tiniali to stop the movement of vehicles.
The Namrup regional unit of All Assam Student Union ( AASU ) organsied protest against the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 by blocking the road and burning tyers at Sonari tiniali. The demonstrators shouted slogans against the state and central governments exibiting play card "Kendriya Government Hai Hai, Raijya Sarkar Murdabad, Mukhyamantri kam nai". More than one hundred AASU activists and local people took part in the protest.
The year long Golden Jubilee of Namrup Sahitya Sabha is coming to an end with various cultural programmes. The programme was inagurated by working president Satrasingh Deuri. Seminar, poetry, cultural night, Book release were part of the event.

The largest ancient Hindu festival, dedicated to Lord Surya and Chhathi Maiya (known to be the wife of Surya), Chhath Puja is unique to the states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Eastern Uttar Pradesh and the country of Nepal. Namrup: There was total bandh in Namrup during the Assam Bandh called by 46 organisations in the state opposing citizenship amendment Bill 2016. Protesters burnt tyres in BVFCL Main Gate, Sonari Tiniali, Namghar Chariali, Salibasa. Marketing complex, Schools, colleges, Government and private offices, Banks were all closed during the bandh.
