Peace meet in Bheragaon

Following the Silapathar incident where an unknown Bengali organisation ransacked the office of the All Assam Students' Union demanding Indian citizenship for Hindu Bengalis who came to Assam from Bangladesh after 1971,the civil administration of Bhergaon sub-division in Udalguri district has arranged peace meetings in all the important places of the sub-division yesterday on March 7.Peace meetings were arranged at the police stations of Kalaigaon,Tangla, Khoirabari,Paneri, Dimakuchi and Harisinga on the same day to create awareness among people so as to maintain peace and communal harmony in the district.The meetings were attended by various students organisations,political parties and leading citizens of respective localities apart from civil and police officials.

The recent apprehension of three school going students in an one year old death case of another minor school student has created sensation in Udalguri district.Sidon Basumatari (14) son of Bapan Basumatari of Khoirabari,a meritorious student of Diamond English School,Harisinga in Udalguri district was found dead hanging with a gamocha from the window of his school hostel on November 8 in 2016.The school authority lodged an FIR at Harisinga police station describing it a case of suicide.Police also accordingly closed the case.But Bapan Basumatari,father of Sidon was not convinced.He alleged that his son was killed by his own school mates. One held with grenades at Mazbat

In a joint operation,Udalguri police and 210 Cobra BN apprehended one Anowar Hussain and recovered two Chinese made grenades from his possession at Mazbat in Udalguri district today on August 9. Boost for peasants

Good news for the peasant fraternity.  Over 45,000 farmers across the State have been covered under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) for the Kharif-2017 season. Among those who registered for the scheme, there were also over 1,700 non-loanee farmers as well. Over 29,400 hectares of land have been covered under the scheme. Ahu (autumn) paddy, Sali (winter) paddy, jute and black gram crops are the notified crops to have been covered under PMFBY during the Kharif-2017 season. "This is the first time Kharif has been covered under the PMFBY in Assam.
