Tearful farewell to Anjan Dutta

The mortal remains of Anjan Dutta were consigned to flames on Friday a day after the APCC president died of cardiac arrest in New Delhi. After last respect to the lifeless former minister in Guwahati and Sivasagar, Dutta’s body was taken to Gaurisagar where he was cremated with full state honour in the afternoon. Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and forest minister Pramila Rani Brahma, MP Ripun Bora were prominent among those who were present at the cremation ground. Before that thousands of bereaved Congress men received Dutta’s body at the Jorhat Airport in the morning and was taken to Sivasagar to facilitate his fans to pay their last respect in Sivasagar town and his birth place Gayan gaon.

Dutta died of cardiac ailment on Thursday morning at the All India Institute of Medical Science a couple of weeks after he was rushed to it. The party in rank and file have condoled his death and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Four persons sustained injury when a full grown tiger which was believed to have come down from the hill side in search of food launched a series of attacks in Dhirenpara area in the morning. Local denizens with the help of forest officials managed to keep the animal confined to a local school building for a couple of hours. Later it was tranquilized and rescued. DIPHU:A major train mishap was averted much to a major respite for hundreds of people who were to Guwahati in Nagaland Express on Saturday. The Guwahati bound train from Dimapur suddenly stopped near Nilang in Diphu since the driver raised doubt over a portion of rail lines. GUWAHATI: The Gauhati High Court will decide on the fate of Akhil Gogoi who has been languishing in Dibrugarh Central Jail under the National Security Act. On hearing a bail moved on behalf of the KMSS leader on Friday, a single bench of Justice AC Bujorbaruah asked the government to clear its position by November 21. On receipt of the papers, the court will decide on the fate of Gogoi who was arrested under National Security Act registering 12 cases.

The security forces engaged in counter insurgency operation in BTAD areas claimed to have arrested yet another NDFB(S) rebels from Chirang district on Saturday.
