Akhil to join AGP!

In yet another move that could boost regionalism, Asom Gana Parishad is preparing to roll out red carpet for Akhil Gogoi.
According to Assam Times Political Research Bureau, the KMSS leader, of late, is prepared to join the regional party.

Senior AGP leaders are tightlipped on the development and the entire confabulation confines to the leadership only.
If everything remains fine Gogoi along with his fans are set to join AGP next in October when the party will turn 20.

Leopard killed in Gossaigaon

A section local residents in Gossaigaon mercilessly killed a full grown leopard after one person sustained injury in its attack on Monday.

The incident took place at Jingribil area under Bauraguri police station in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district on Monday where the animal which came out of the Ripu-chirang reserve forest under Kachgaon forest division on Sunday in search of home sneaked into human habitat on Monday.

Identified as Jwngsar Brahma, the 18 year old youth was injured in the attack in the morning. The angry villagers attacked the animal with sticks and sharp weapons where the animal died on the spot.

 

State panel ready for panchayat polls

The State Election Commission (SEC) is gearing up for holding a free and fair panchayat polls in the state as the Gauhati High Court has cleared the decks.

According to information, the poll notification will be issued on November 29 and the model code of conduct will come into force.

The authority has already issued strict instructions to the district administrations for necessary arrangement to make the polls a free and fair.

The state poll panel will hold the election in three phases and the results are expected before January 15. But sources here say the voters will have to go with ballot papers instead of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the polls.

The polls will elect as many as 242 zila parishad council (ZPC) members, 2,199 gaon panchayat (GP) presidents, 2,199 anchalic panchayat (AP) members and 21,990 gaon panchayat members.

Over 14,000 selected candidates received appointment orders from Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi at a function in Sarusajai on Saturday. The appointment of lower and upper primary teachers is on contract basis. In his address, education minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the remaining TET successful candidates would also be appointed in a phase manner. On Saturday, 13,386 TET successful candidates received appointment orders as lower primary teachers.
