Top Congress leaders in New Delhi have been holding a series of meetings to finetune the candidates for the assembly polls.
APCC president Anjan Dutta and poll panel chairman Kamal Nath along with Dr CP Joshi have been constantly meeting for the last two days.
"The first list of candidates is ready. Party high command is expected to give the final seal of approval on Friday night. The list would be announced on Saturday," said a senior AICC leader in New Delhi.
Ninety per cent sitting legislators are expected to contest this time. At least ten sitting MLAs are likely to shy away from contest because of age factor. "But they have been growing their family members to contest," said the Congress leader.
Assembly Speaker Pranab Kumar Gogoi is likely to be replaced by his son while Dr Bhumidhar Barman's son is expected to give away his Sarukhetri constituency to his son. Rameswar Dhanowar's son is waiting to contest while Sarat Borkotoky is lobbying for his son.
