Assam's well known Dispur Hospital marked the World Kidney Day on 10 March with various activities including a free kidney check-up camp for common people. Over hundred people arrived at the hospital premises from different parts of Assam for the kidney check-up and consultation. The health camp, which witnessed the participation of around 120 people from Sibsagar, North Lakhimpur, Dimapur, Nagaon with the city of Guwahati provided the participants a number of relevant laboratory tests free of cost. Dr TA Choudhury (Nephrology), Dr PM Deka (Urology), Dr Abhishek Debnath conducted the camp which started at 10 am. A host of paramedical staff of the hospital assisted them. Earlier senior journalist Nava Thakuria flagged off a walkathon from the hospital in the morning hours.
It may be mentioned that World Kidney Day is observed on 10 March with an aim to raise awareness about the importance of the kidneys to overall health scenario and also to reduce the risk factors for the small but very important organs.
Moreover creating awareness about various preventive behaviours and also surviving with kidney diseases without affecting the quality of life are also emphasized.
As the diabetes and high blood pressure are two key risk factors for chronic kidney diseases, physicians advise everyone to adopt safe & preventive behaviours. Similarly the systematic screening of all patients with diabetes and hypertension are encouraged in the international kidney day which was initiated in 2006 for the first time.
“We would like to extend our gratitude to all the participants for their cooperation in making our mission to create awareness about various kidney related diseases a success,” said Dr Jayanta Bardoloi, CMD of Dispur Hospitals Pvt. Ltd, which is identified as the only private health institution in the region with a DNB status for its Urology department.
