After weeks of will-it-won’t-it, the Assam government restricts sale of maggi from Thursday. The decision was finalized hours after the experts found the substance of lead and MSG in the Nestle product.Health minister Dr Nazrul Islam who received the report from the laboratory has finally asked the authority to restrict sale and purchase of maggi. On Wednesday the health department collected the maggi samples and conducted test at the laboratory where the inadmissible substances surfaced. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi asked the health department to submit a report by Thursday to clear its stand on the maggi controversy.
Electronic Media Forum Assam (EMFA) has reiterated its old demand for a special law to protect the media persons on duty across the country. Normal life in lower areas remained partially disrupted following a 12 hour bandh call by six non Bodo organizations on Thursday demanding ST status.The bandh which began at 6 in the morning evoked hardly any response in the Bodo dominated areas in Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon.Bus and train services remained uninterrupted in these areas. Same it was in the shops and markets, schools and colleges, banks and offices. The statewide bandh had mixed response in some particular areas in lower Assam.
