Gamlin joins as Delhi chief secy

Despite stiff resistance from Arvind Kejriwal and his lobby senior IAS officer from Assam Shakuntala Gamlin took over as Delhi chief secretery. 

Shakuntala, the daughter of former minister Lalit Doley and wife of former Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin has alleged intimidation by a section of bureacrates not to take over. 

He was Lt Governor Jung who appointed her in the top post defying the chief minister's opposition who calls her corrupt.

Yet another student leader is all prepared to join BJP. He is none other than Manoj Kumar Baruah. The AJYCP chief is scheduled to quit the organization at an emergency meeting in Guwahati on June 7.Baruah along with outgoing AASU leader Tapan Kumar Gogoi and Sankar Prasad Roy are set to join the saffron party soon after his exit from the student body. The BJP leadership are believed to have agreed to field him in the next assembly polls.    
The Haryana police have arrested yet another person from Haryana for procuring three girls from Assam through a middlemen who have been earlier caught in this connection.Sources told Assam Times that identified as Mahendra Singh, the local resident from Palam village in Gurgaon was sent to jail on Wednesday after he was caught in this connection.  Earlier police arrested Rahul Ali and Nizam Ali for selling the girls to Singh person in Haryana at Rs 25,000. During interrogation Rahul is believed to have confessed the crime. 
Train services remained paralyzed for several hours on Wednesday when the All Assam Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AAKRSU) staged blockade in Kamrup (Rural) district reiterating demanding for ST status. AAKRSU activists in large number blocked the movement of trains by on the tracks at Kendukona Railway station from 9 in the morning shouting slogans for ST status.Several down and up trains had to remain stranded under the impact of the 3 hours blockade. At least 150 agitators courted arrest as they were demanding Scheduled Tribe (ST) status for the Koch-Rajbongshis apart from a separate Kamtapur state.  The Siphung Passenger train was detained at Rangiya, Kamakhya-...
At least 850 special police officers have threatened self immolation if the authorities fail to implement the promises. Addressing a press conference in Lumding on Wednesday, the policemen who joined the mainstream before being appointed as special police officers said that they would launch an indefinite on June 6 demanding early steps to implement the promises.“Enough is enough. We are tired of waiting. If the government fails further then we have no option but to self immolate,” said the SPOs.    They said that the government assured them of steps to ensure recruitment in Assam industrial security force which has yet to be materialized.   
Both the Centre and Nagaland governnment are worried ove the recent mess in the ceasefire with NSCN-K. The impending implication thereof figured in the meeting between chief minister T R Zeliang and Union home minister Rajnath Singh at New Delhi recently.The duo discussed in detail the prevailing law and order situation in the state in view of the insurgent activities. The chief minister apprised Singh of the on going violent activities, extortion and other unlawful acts.Nagaland home minister Y Patton, Union home secretary L C Goyal were also present in the meeting. 
Union minister of state for home Kiren Rijiju is hopeful of the peace process with ULFA. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Wednesday, the junior home minister said that the recent round of peace talks with ULFA leaders was conducive and that it the process is allowed to move forward it would give a positive result.He further said that the boundary impasse would be over in near future.    
A resurgent Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma starts taking on BJP hardly a year before the assembly polls. The former cabinet minister on Wednesday took on BJP saying that the party won’t be able to fare well in the polls early next year.He ridiculed BJP’s 126 mission saying,” please target 125 seats excluding my Jalukbari.” Notably, BJP leaders announced mission 126 after its brainstorming session in Jorhat.  
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi has written to health department asking for report on Maggie quality. Sources told Assam Times that Gogoi has asked the health authorities to submit a report on the quality of Maggie which is still open in the open in the market. He would restrict the sale of Maggie only on the basis of the report.Notably, several states have restricted the sale of Maggie. Even action is on the card against Nestle. Addressing a press conference in Guwahati former health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government is very late on the steps to curb the menace. 
Caught in a big trouble Subramanian Swamy is desperately trying to escape his arrest a day after a local court in Karimganj issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against the senior BJP leader.The court asked the Delhi poliuce to arrest the leader who on Monday  failed to honour a summons issued on March 19.The court summoned him following a complaint filed against him for saying mosques were not a religious place in an inflammatory speech. The court asked the authorities to arrest Swami before June 30 and to produced him before it.
A local court in Chirang sentenced t people to life imprisonment over the killing of a couple alleging witchery. The court order was passed on Monday where  they were convicted on charges of murder and destroying of evidence.It took in 2011 where a group of villagers in Dimakumari in Dhaligaon killed 55-year-old Raman Narzary and his 50-year-old wife Bulaw alleging witchery.The couple was hacked to death and their bodies buried in a nearby pit. Narzary's son Amar had filed a police complaint seeking action against those involved in the killings. One of them is on the run while seven were sent to judicial custody in neighbouring Kokrajhar district.
