VDP Bhawan inaugurated

BTAD Inspector General of Police(IGP),Dr L R Bishnoi inaugurated the newly constructed VDP Bhawan at Kokrajhar Sadar police station complex in the presence of high police officers on Tuesday.  It was constructed from police welfare fund for the welfare of VDP men in the district.

Security forces claimed to have killed an arms smuggler at an encounter in Kokrajhar on Tuesday. Another person sustained bullet injury in the shoot out at Kamalachara Patalpuri area in the afternoon. According to information, acting on a tip off police and CRPF launched a joint operation in the area in the afternoon where initially the armed men targeted the security forces. When retaliated, one of the duo was killed while another sustained serious injury. He was rushed to the Rupnath Brahma Civil Hospital. Sensation is simmering in Bijni town after suspected NDFB-S militants kidnapped a higher secondary student forcing the security forces to launch rescue operation in the area on two days back.Identified as Mantu Roy, the Class XII student went missing from the town on Friday after he left for the Lakhmi mela at Bijni. The kidnappers have confirmed the incident and called up his family members demanding Rs 50 lakhs ransom.Rescue operation is in progress and the senior officials monitoring the progress are tightlipped on the development for the interest of the investigation.

Laimwn Sports Club in Aflagaon reached the final match of the Kanakeswar Narzary Memorial Football Trophy defeating Barhungka Athletic Club in Kokrajhar by 4-1 goals via tie-breaker shots in the second semi at the Rup Nath Brahma ground at Ramfalbill in Kokrajhar.Sayaram Basumatary scored his first goal in 10th minutes in the first half on behalf of Barhungka against Laimwn. Food Corporation of India(FCI) Sports Club from Guwahati will take on Guwahati ASEB in the Daoharu Mungkhlong Trophy final match slated for October 18 in Kokrajhar.Guwahati FCI sailed to the final after defeating Assam Rhino from Tezpur in the last semi final by 5-4 goals via tie-breaker shots at Dotma DASA ground on Wednesday.Both teams tried to score goals.
