VDP Bhawan inaugurated

BTAD Inspector General of Police(IGP),Dr L R Bishnoi inaugurated the newly constructed VDP Bhawan at Kokrajhar Sadar police station complex in the presence of high police officers on Tuesday.  It was constructed from police welfare fund for the welfare of VDP men in the district.

Free eye camp at Patgaon

A free eye camp has fetched no less appreciation for the Bodoland Peoples Front(BPF) in Kokrahar. People in large number turned up to the five doctors from Nepal at the free medical camp at Patgaon Bazar on Wednesday. BTC executive member Mono Kumar Brahma inaugurated the camp and he himself also checked up his eyes in the camp. The poor patients got all medicines free of cost who participated in the camp. The camp will operate in Salakati on Thurday and on Friday it would resume in Kokrajhar. 

Workshop on handicrafts

A two-day workshop on development of handicraft and languishing craft of Bodoland  was begun from Wednesday at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar.Over two-hundred weavers participated in the workshop which is being organised by Bodoland Regional Apex Weaver & Artisans Cooperative Federation Limited (BRAWFED) in association with Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. BNC convention from Jan 3

The Bodo National Conference (BNC), an umbrella of various organisations has decided to hold its annual convention on January 3 and 4 next year in Kokrajhar.Speaking the Reporters today at PWD Guest House in Kokrajhar, Anjali Daimary, secretary of the conference  said that the annual convention will be held with two-day colourful programme scheduled.The BNC also condemned the killing,kidnapping and extortion in BTAD region and demanded strong action against prevailing situation from the government.Daimary also said that a five to six delegation team from BNC under the leadership of former Assam Minister and MLA Chandan Brahma will meet  the NDFB founder...

Jaiklong Brahma released on bail

Kokrajhar based Journalist Jaiklong Brahma was released on bail from Kokrajhar Jail on Thursday. He was arrested by Kokrajhar Police on September 2, 2014. The family members, relatives, well wishers and media fraternity received him in Kokrajhar jail premises and took to rented residence at Maldangpara (Mijink Nwgwr). Car lifters brought to Kokrajhar

Police have busted a notorious gang of car lifters when three thieves were nabbed in Karbi Anglong districts. Identified as Chemau Kumar Singh,Puyana Nila Kumar and Pangam Pamau Maikel Singh, they were brought to Kokrajhar a day after being captured along with a stolen Bolero from Khotkhoti area near Dimapur on Saturday. The trio had stolen the vehicle bearing registration No AS-16A-4624 from Hatimata area in Kokrajhar on November 25 which belongs to Robin Basumatary. Police investigation started after the owner lodged the FIR with Kokrajhar police and four days after it, Katkoti caught the thieves and recovered the vehicle on Saturday. 

Rajdhani express stranded

Several long-distance trains including Rajdhani express (down 12423) bound for New Delhi stranded over five-hours at Kokrajhar railway station following rail roko agitation at Kamakhyaguri railway station, West Bengal by Merchants on Saturday. The Rajdhani express reached Kokrajhar station  by 9.45 am and halted till 3.15pm due to rail roko, Sampark Kranti express (down) stranded at Fakiragram railway station in Kokrajhar district.

Bodo Sabha stages dharna in Delhi

The Bodo Sahitya Sabha staged mass dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Wednesday reiterating their demands. Hundreds of activists from BSS, ABSU, ABWWF, ABPTU, DBHA participated in the dharna raising banners, placards and shouted slogans demanding  early measures to fulfil their demands. Then they submitted a memo to Prime Minister demanding creation of separate directorate for Bodo language, implementation of Bodo as an official language in the BTAD areas as per the Bodo Accord, 2003. Kokrajhar girl rescued in Siliguri

She is Renuka Hembrom. The teen aged girl was missing from July. But she is back to home. Courtesy Nedan Foundation. The Kokrajhar-based non government organization managed to rescue Renuka on Monday. That too from Siliguri.  She went missing in July when a women from West Bengal lured her a job. Renuka told Assam Times that the Santhali lady took her to Siliguri from Laltola bordering Srirampur.She was last seen on July 24 at Srirampur area. Kokrajhar: 7 detained in kidnap case

 The Kokrajhar police interrogated seven persons a day after miscreants kidnapped Kartick Paul from Saralapra on Sunday. All the seven persons are residents of Saralpara area in Bismuri who are being interrogated in this connection. Security forces are concentrating search operations in the jungle areas of Saralpara along the Indo-Bhutan international border area.
