Action on Akhil Gogoi

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that action would be taken against Akhil Gogoi in connection with the recent self immolation incident in Dispur.

Disclosing this at a press conference in Guwahati on Friday, chief minister Tarun Gogoi said that enquiry is in progress to unearth the truth behind the entire shocking incident.

On February 25, a KMSS activist died after self immolation attempt in Dispur in protest against a land patta distribution function in the city.

Chetia deportation next week

Bangladesh steps up procedures to deport ULFA general secretary Anup Chetia next week. But the authorities are tightlipped on the date. Security has been beefed up at the Rajshahi central jail have for Chetia, who is has been languishing in the jail since 1997. Sources say Chetia was allowed to know the process. 5 killed, 35 injured in Golaghat tanker mishap

Atleast 5 people died and over 35 others have been injured at a huge inferno which took place after an oil tanker met mishap on the National Highway 37 in Golaghat. Noted educationist, journalist Thaneswar Hazarika passes away

Thaneswar Hazarika, of the Bokakhat Town and the local correspondent of The Sentinel newspaper died on Saturday at his residence following prolonged illness. Born in Majuli, Hazarika was 64 at the time of his demise. Noted educationist, Hazarika retired as the principal-in-charge of JDSG college, Bokakhat. He was associated with various newspapers of Assam including The Assam Tribune, Dainik Asom, The Sentinel, The Eastern Clarion, Natun Dainik etc. He was serving as the president of Bokakhat Press Club at the time of his demise. Highly admired by the people of Bokakhat, Hazarika leaves behind his wife, two daughters and a son, besides a host of relatives.
