Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. AGP is holding its steering committee meeting in Guwahati on Wednesday to finalise the candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Party leaders told Assam Times that presided over by President Prafullla Kumar Mahanta at the Ambari-based party headquarters, the crucial meeting have already finalized the names of 10 candidates.“Other candidates would be finalized towards the evening,” said a senior party leader. But the party unanimously has decided to go it alone in the Lok sabha polls.              
Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath is on a day long visit to Guwahati to take stock of the preparation for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls slated for April 7, 12 and 24.Sampath is reviewing the entire poll preparations with the deputy commissioners along with the superintendents of police at the Khanapara Administrative Staff College from 10-30 in the morning.This stock-taking meeting would be followed by his meeting with Chief Secretary JS Kholsa, DGP Khagen Sarma along with state’s election commissioner.Apart from this, the full fledged commission is scheduled to hold a crucial meeting with the political parties to discuss the model code of conduct which is in force.  
A CRPF janwan hailing from Assam was killed in Tuesday’s Maoist attack in Chattisgarh.Identified as Faizul Haque, the jawans hailed from Kampur in Nagaon.Amid a descending pall of gloom, the body of Faizul would be brought to his home on Wednesday for last rites after homage.         
Police arrested a hardcore ULFA militant in Sivasagar on Tuesday.Identified as Ghanashyam Asom, the militant was captured from Piyoli Phukan Nagar in the town on Tuesday evening.The youth who hails from Lakhimpur was involved in a string of sabotage activities the district.

Tension is escalating in Krishna in Goalpara district area after three hardcore UALA militants were killed in mob attack on Tuesday.The bizarre incident took place in the wee hours along the Assam-Meghalaya interstate border where local residents overpowered the trio on their way to extort money from the area in the wee hours.Security forces arrived in the spot. Gauhati High Court on Tuesday deferred hearing of Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea to March 14.The court deferred the hearing on Tuesday after the KMSS president’s lawyer sought more time to represent him in the court.Gogoi along with 5 of his associates were arrested on March 1 in connection with the Pranab Boro self immolation case. After five days in police custody, the KMSS leader want remanded to judicial custody. Then Gogoi’s counselor moved a bail petition before the Gauhati High Court.     
BJP candidate for Guwahati Bijoya Chakrabarty began per poll campaign hitting out strongly at Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday.Landing in Guwahati, the sitting MP called chief minister a failure. He said that Gogoi has hardly any ground.Her supporters in large number greeted her immediately after she landed at the Lokpriya Gopianth Bordoloi International Airport.An visible encouraged Chakrabarty said that she would contest with confidence.
