Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Aam Admi party candidate Manoram Gogoi filed nomination papers in Jorhat on Thursday.Accompanied by his supporters, Gogoi filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at DC office in the morning.     
District administrations across the state have asked the arms license holders to submit their arms with immediate effect.Apprehending intimidation on the voters in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, the authorities have asked these license holders to deposit their arms before their police stations.    
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi reviewed the state’s overall law and order situation at a high level meeting in Guwahati on Thursday.Chaired by Gogoi, the meeting assessed the law and order situation in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.Chief Secretary JS Khusla along with DGP Khagen Sarma and other senior civil and police officials attended the meeting at Koinadhara in the afternoon.  
Poachers have killed yet another rhino in Kaziranga. The carcass of the full grown one horn rhino was found in Kohora range on Thursday.The animal was believed to have been killed three days back to take away the horn.With this, poachers have killed two rhinos in the same range within the last 24 hours.Forest guards found the carcass of a full grown rhino at Kohora range on Wednesday morning. Its horn was missing.          
Tezpur Congress leader Mani Kumar Subba will fight as an independent candidate.  Subba is believed to have been preparing to file his nomination on Friday.The former Congress MP from Tezpur on Thursday took out a huge rally in Joimoti pothar where his supporters in large number pledged to ensure his victory in his upcoming polls.A section of AIUDF is also set to vote for Subba after the party leadership has fielded Sheikh Aziz from this constituency.   
The Gauhati High Court is expected to pass its judgment on Akhil Gogoi’s bail plea on March 24.A division bench of the court on Thursday heard the bail petition moved in connection to the case filed by Tuwaram Sarania, who charged him with masterminding a conspiracy where his son Pranab Boro resorted to self immolation.The court, however, asked police to submit the case diaries in detail by March 24.Gogoi on Wednesday procured bail in one of the case of self immolation by Pranab Boro in Dispur on February 24.
Tezpur BJP candidate Ram Prasad Sarma filed his nomination papers on Thursday.Accompanied by a hundreds of his supporters at a huge procession, Sarma arrived in the DC office in Tezpur where he filed nomination papers before the returning officer.On the other hand, his counterpart in Dibrugarh Rameswar Teli also filed nomination papers on Thursday.Polling with take place in both the constituency on April 7.  
AGP president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta on Thursday said that only the regional party has every strength to raise voice of Assam in parliament.Addressing a huge rally in Lakhimpur on behalf of Hariprasad Dihingia, the AGP president said that the people have already decided to vote for the regional party.  
The Income Tax sleuths on Wednesday arrested a person in Guwahati and seized a huge amount of money from his possession.Identified as PK Dutta, he was held at the Logpriya Gopinath Borodoloi International Airport in Guwahati in the evening.A huge amount of Rs 10 lakh has been seized from his possession by the Income Tax sleuths.  
Two more heavyweights filed nomination papers in Jorhat on Wednesday.The first candidate to have filed nomination papers was BK Handique to be followed by Pradeep Hazarika in the afternoon.Accompanied by a cultural troupe, the AGP candidate filed nomination papers before the returning officer in Jorhat DC office premises.  Hazarika said that the voters have realized that AGP is the only option left with them.Then came Drupod Buragohain to file nomination papers to contest from this constituency.The CPI candidate arrived in the DC office premises with hundreds of his supporters who said that the people should allow the CPI to serve them. Polling with take place on April 7.
