Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. Finally BJP has made up its mind. The Opposition party has announced the name of Joiram Englang as the candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in Diphu seat. The announcement came from New Delhi on Friday morning nearly a week after the Congress leader in Karbi Anglong joined BJP.England left Congress after the ruling party announced the name of Biren Singh Engleng as the candidate for Diphu.
Over 50 people have fallen ill after consuming grams at a religious function in Nagaon district on Thursday.They, mostly, complained of stomach ache and started vomiting hours after they consumed Prasad of grams and pulse at a religious function organized at a house in Chapormukh area on Thursday. In a stepped up operations against miscreants, security forces captured three armed youths in the outskirt of Guwahati on Friday.The three armed youths who are believed to be the NDFB-S linkmen were held in Khetri in the wee hours. Police interrogation is going on.
Several political heavyweights are set to file their nomination papers on the last day on Friday for the first phase of Lok Sabha poll slated for April 7.They include BJP state president Sarbananda Sonowal and his Congress counterpart Ranee Narah in Lakhimpur. Union minister and Congress candidate Pawan Singh Ghatowar is also set to file nomination papers on Friday in Dibrugarh.They are apart from Mani Kumar Subba, the Congress leader who will file nomination to contest as independent candidate in Tezpur.

A woman sustained serious injury when unidentified miscreants fired upon her on Thursday.The incident took place at Gossaigaon Tiniali when three unidentified youths fired upon a women as she was sitting at her veranda at around 7 in the evening.Then they vanished from the spot before the arrival of policemen who are fanning out in the area to nab the culprit.Identified as Kamala Goala, the injured woman was immediately rushed to the hospital.
An uneasy calm prevails in Kokrajhar following the recovery of a body in Chechapani on Thursday.Local residents spotted the body beside the railway track and informed it to police in the morning. The body with jeans pant, jacket was sent for post mortem. The legs bore cut marks. The youth was believed to have been thrown out of a moving trainin between Kokrajhar-Fakiragram station.

Kokrajhar Trinamool Congress Ranjeet Sekhar Moosahary said that the people want change.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar in the sidelines of a poll meeting, the former Meghalaya Governor said that BPF won’t be a factor in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.He said that he was confident of victory adding that only TMC would be able to bring about a change in the country.
