Very happy to know that the association is continuing to do well and growing. I had the privilege of being the President of the association around 1981-82 when I was a Professor of IIT-Madras ( now Chennai). During Assam Movement, we published the Brahmaputra Beckons. BJP President Sarbananda Sonowal filed his nomination papers in Lakhimpur on Friday. Thousands of his supporters took out a huge rally in Lakhimpur to welcome Sonowal to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where the state BJP president submitted his papers before the returning officer.   Sonowal filed his nomination in the afternoon hours after his Congress rival Uniin minister Ranee Narah filed her nomination papers.

Tension is escalating in Karbi Anglong when suspected miscreants from Nagaland unleashed a reign of terror at a village on Friday.The incident took place when a group armed Naga youths arrived in Dikoi village and started blank firing to terrorize the villagers. Security forces arrived in the spot. But  by then, they disappeared from the village. The blank firing took place hours after police arrested seven Naga persons for illegal occupying in the land beyond their territory.

Former MP Dr Arun Sarma filed his nomination papers in Nagaon as AGP candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Koliabor on Friday.Dr Sarma, the three time MP of the party was taken to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Nagaon at a huge procession led by president Prafulla Kumar Mahanta, Gunin Hazarika, Lachit Bordoloi and Keshab Mahanta where he filed his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12-30 in the afternoon. The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.

Kamakhya Prasad Tasa on Friday filed his nomination papers as BJP candidate in Jorhat for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.Accompanied by his senior party leaders, Tasa arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Jorhat where he submitted his nomination papers before the returning officer at 12 in the noon.    Congress candidate BK Handique, CPI candidate Drupad Buragohain, AGP candidate Pradeep Hazarika and AAP candidate Manoram Gogoi have already filed their nomination papers.The papers would be scrutinized on Saturday and the last date for withdrawal of nomination is slated for March 23. The polling will take place on April 7.
Union minister Ranee Narah filed nomination papers as Congress candidate in Lakhimpur on Friday.Accompanied by thousands of party workers, the Union minister arrived in the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Lakhimpur and submitted her nomination papers before the returning officer at 11 in the morning.    
Yet another AGP leader is likely to join BJP. He is none other than Padma Hazarika who is yet to make up his mind.Hazarika, who was suspended from the party for anomalies in the Rajya Sabha voting last month, has received formal proposal from the party. BJP legislator Ranjit Dutta on Friday morning met the Sootea MLA where the proposal was conveyed.Very recently, his supporters have Hazarika the free hand to join wherever he likes. But of late, the AGP leadership have hint of withdrawing the suspension order against him.
