ULFA vs Zubeen

The United Liberation Front of Asom has strongly criticized Zubeen Garg for performing in Hindi at the Latasheel function.
In a statement released to media on Thursday, the outfit alleged that the artist has downplayed the appeal.

The Paresh Baruah faction of ULFA has warned Assam singers from singing Hindi songs in the upcoming Rongali Bihu functions and the organisers to desist from holding dances set to Bollywood songs.

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee(APCC) president Ripun Bora today lambasted the state BJP-led government for failing to control the price rise. In a press statement Bora alleged that the price rise has dampened bhogali bihu festivity for a large section of the people of the state. “BJP-led government has failed to control the exorbitant price rise of the essential food items. It has brought misery to many. A large number of people could not arrange the Uruka feast due to price rise.” Bora further alleged.

Another sad news for the greater Assamese society. Prominent Assamese NRI and literateur Dr. Karuna Sagar Das is no more. He passed away Wednessday morning, Dr. Das's family members informed. The editor of celebrated bi-lingual yearly magazine ' Luit to Thames' edited by Dr. Das has been trying to bulid a bridge between NRI Assamese people with their roots. Guwahati : The Board of Secondary Education,  Assam has announced the date of HSLC examination from May 11. The delay is attributed to COVID19 endemic and assembly polls.  The results, however,  will be announced on July 7. On the other hand, the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council is also preparing to hold the HS examination in arts,  science and commerce streams from May 12 and the results would be announced on July 30. These board examinations normally are conducted in February and March. This was what education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma twitted on Saturday.
Guwahati: Noted social worker, organizer and London-based Assamese NRI Rini Kakati died in Guwahati leaving a spell of gloom in the state.  She was 70 to be survived by her son who happens to be a doctor based in London. Kakati, who was involved in a number of socio cultural initiatives in London, died a sudden death at the Gauhati Medical College Hospital in Guwahati on December 27.  Kakati regularly contributed news items to Assam Times for  more than a decade.
A cash-for-jobs scam accused Dr. Ajanta Hazarika has , on Monday surrendered before a Dibrugarh court. As per reports Dr. Hazarika, who is the HoD of the Plastic Surgery department of the Dibrugarh based Assam Medical College and Hospital had, allegedly, collected money from some youths promising them jobs in the Indian Railways.
