Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Assam trader shot dead in Dimapur

Dimapur hits media headlines again after unidentified miscreants shot dead a businessman from Assam.The incident took place at SP Colony in the commercial hub of Nagaland on Saturday evening when unidentified gunmen shot dead Dipankar Dey.The reason has yet to be ascertained. Police have not arrested anybody in this connection.The incident took place hardly two months after gunmen shot dead a businessman from Jorhat in Assam for refusing to pay ransom.

Arunachal flood scene grim

Flood waters continue to wreak havoc in Arunachal Pradesh submerging a huge portion of the hills state on Sunday.The worst-hit districts are Lohit and Namsai where the situation has gone from bad to worse following the sudden rise in the water levels of the rivers Lohit, Noa-Dehing, Kamlang. These rivers have started flowing dangerously following incessant rains in the catchment areas during the last couple of days.Surface communication remains heavily disrupted apart from the damage of standing crops on thousands of hectares of land.There is no hope of restoration of surface communication between Alubari and Tezu in Lohit districts for the next several days. Flood scene unchaged

The flood scene in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh remains unchanged on Sunday.The river Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still flowing above the danger level leaving no room for respite for more than 6 lakh people.Flood waters level in Assam are still surging even after the halt of the rains. According to the Assam Disaster Management Authority, the current flood wave has washed away 90 roads, embankments, culverts and bridges in the state. These incidents, mostly, took place in Kokrajhar, Bongaigaon and Barpeta districts where surface communications are still remaining heavily disrupted.

Witch hunting rerun in Byrnihat

An eerie silence prevails in Byrnihat along the Assam-Meghalaya border a day after a group of miscreants killed an aged woman in the name of witch hunting.The incident took place at on Saturday night where a group of local youths dragged out the  septuagenarian woman Miri Turu of her home to be killed in the name of witch hunting.Later police have arrested the main accused Nayan Baptri who is being grilled by a team of policemen in Byrnihat police station.The incident took place hardly a month after the Assam legislative assembly cleared a legislation to stop witch hunting cases.
