Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday called Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma an opportunist and selfish who lacked ideologue.Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Gogoi said,” a real Congress leader cannot join a communal party like BJP.”Gogoi arrived in New Delhi on Monday to meet Sonia Gandhi to discuss the post-Himanta exit situation.

An internal group of ministers will be visiting the state’s flood-hit areas in a day or two. Disclosing this before reporters in Guwahati, DoNER minister Jitendra Prasad Singh said that the Centre has yet to received any letter from Dispur asking from grant to help the state bail out of the flood situation.But, he said, Dispur will receive Rs 207 crore from the Centre to manage the current situation arising out of the flood fury.Earlier, he along with revenue minister Dr Bhumidhar Barman visited the flood-hit areas and met the marooned people.             
BPF Chief Hagrama Mohilary said Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma entry’s into BJP was his personal decision.Talking to reporters in Kokrajhar after Dr Sarma confirmed his decision, the BPF president said that the party had nothing to support to oppose Dr Sarma since they were no longer with the ruling party. 
A Supreme Court panel will be meeting on Tuesday to end the ongoing Gauhati High Court deadlock over the public interest litigation.Convened by Chief Justice of India HL Dutte, the meeting will be attended by Justice Ranjan Gagoi, Justice A.M. Sapre and Justice Amitabh Roy, who will deliberate on the contents of the memorandum submitted by the lawyers’ body of the Gauhati High Court on Sunday.A Gauhati High Court Bar Association delegation met CJI in New Delhi on Sunday who assured them of steps to short out the issue.  
After Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, five sitting Congress legislators are believed to have been preparing to join BJP on August 28.Three of them have been camping in New Delhi to clear the formalities. According to unconfirmed reports, parliamentary secretary Balin Chetia, Nalbari MLA Jayanta Malla Baruah and Jonai MLA Pradan Baruah are preparing to follow Dr Sarma who unofficially joined BJP on Sunday.Dr Sarma along with his associates are set to join BJP on August 28 when the party wll be holding a huge rally in Guwahati. 
DoNER minister Jitendra Prasad Singh on a day long visit to Assam on Tuesday. Singh is scheduled to visit the flood affected areas in Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Goalpara and Dhubri where the current flood wave has rendered more than 2 lakh people homeless.   
Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is meeting Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday to discuss the political situation after Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed hi entry into BJP.He is also likely to meet Vice president Rahul Gandhi along with other top AICC leaders. 
Chief minister Tarun Gogoi called Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma an able political leader 24 hours after his former man Friday unofficially joined BJP.Addressing a press conference in Guwahati on Monday, Gogoi said that he did many thing at the initiative of Dr Sarma whom he gave good chances.“Yes, I wanted him in Congress. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi said on Monday that the current flood wave has claimed 14 lives apart from affecting 8,26,000 people in 14 districts.Addressing a press conference in Dispur, he alleged to have received insufficient fund from the Centre. He said the water level starts receding adding that 2 lakh people are still in the relief camps.
