Nazira, March 26: A severe shortage of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders has disrupted normal life across Nazira sub-division, causing widespread hardship for residents in several areas.
Amid the ongoing Assembly election period, many localities including Nazira town, Simaluguri, Geleki, Namti, Michajan, Mechagarh, Balighat, Santak, Bihubar, Mathurapur, Athkhel and Singibil are reportedly facing an acute shortage of fuel and cooking gas. Local residents have described the situation as an “artificial” scarcity that has intensified over the past few days.
Most petrol pumps in the region have reportedly run out of stock, leaving consumers struggling to obtain essential fuel. At a few outlets where limited supplies remain, long queues of vehicles have been witnessed. Lahoti Petrol Pump at Nazira Chariali, along with outlets at Balighat and Sunpura, has seen heavy rush as people gather to purchase whatever fuel is available.
The shortage has significantly affected transportation services across the area, making daily commuting and routine activities increasingly difficult for the public. Many residents say they are facing serious inconvenience in carrying out essential tasks due to the lack of fuel.
Meanwhile, a continuing shortage of LPG cylinders over the past several days has further compounded the difficulties for households in Nazira, with many families struggling to arrange cooking gas.
Some residents believe that disruptions in fuel supply may be linked to rising international tensions affecting global oil supply chains, though no official confirmation has been issued regarding the cause of the shortage.
In view of the growing crisis, residents have urged the district administration to take immediate steps to restore the supply of petrol, diesel and LPG cylinders and bring the situation under control.
