Sadhana Das passes away

Sadhana Das (69 years), wife of a benevolent social worker of Jorhat Jiten Das has left her mortal body on 21st June, 2007 at Dispur Hospital, Guwahati. She has left behind her husband, her only son Mr. Jyotimoi Das and her two daughters along with many other relatives.

Amid a pall of gloom the lifeless Chitra Saikia has arrived in his home on Sunday morning three days after he was killed in firing along the Indo-Pak border. At around 8 in the morning, Chitra’s body was flown to Guwahati where senior army officials paid their last respect. Then it was taken to his home in Jagi Bhakat gaon in Jagiroad where he would be cremated.Various parties, organizations and individuals have condoled the death of the army jawan and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Arunachal Pradesh governor visited JP Rajkhowa visited the bamboo processing centre at Poma on Saturday. Properties worth one crore were reduced to ashes when at least ten shops caught fire in Goalpara district on Saturday.The incident took place at Balapara area where the fire originated at a shop and then started spreading to the adjacent shops. Fire tenders were deployed to deal with the huge inferno. But by then the fire engulfed as many as ten nearby shops.“The extent of damage stands nearly over one crore. The reason of the fire has yet to be ascertained. Preliminary investigation suggest electric short circuit. Details are yet to be learnt,” said a police officer who arrived in the spot to assess the situation. 
Two local businessmen went missing from Mancachar on Saturday. Popularly known as Akidul Islam and Billul Miyan, the duo were suspected to have been kidnapped by militants from across the interstate border. Security forces have stepped up search operations in Chandguri from where the duo went missing.
